    @fontana, I liked #sysadmin'ing for one last time at !SFLC. OTOH,it reminded me: !FSF is only place that adheres steadfast to !FaiF sw only.

      @fabsh yeah, i'm a Fedora user since Fedora Core 6 and sendmail was already installed by default.

      @fabsh Real Linux systems have an smtp server to do local mail. Sendmail is just traditional.

      @fontana But it's not in CentOS? WTF!?

      @fabsh are you sure? I think centos installs sendmail as default smtp server. I always have to remove it and install postfix

      @fontana Oh, of course. A lot of people on RHEL swap out Sendmail for Postfix. No idea why it's still the default since few people use it.

      @macno I had no mail server installed on Linode.

      @fabsh I'm pretty sure it is default in CentOS. It was on my system.

      @rahulsundaram Woo! That's good to hear. :) Kind of like sending an old friend into retirement, though.

      @gomerx Definitely wasn't on any of my VPSes when I installed them.

      @fabsh and how do you manage system notification email? (From crond for example)

      Wednesday, 08-Jun-11 18:07:41 UTC
    • Fabian Scherschel Fabian Scherschel Michele "Macno" Azzolari

      @macno Not. That was the problem.

      @fontana That's probably why I suck at sysadmin-ing.

      @fontana The config file for Postfix is less than 700 lines long. What could be hard about that? :)

      @vk7hse Yes, that would certainly cut down on a lot of the fun.

      @fabsh CentOS 5.3 i386 installs sendmail-8.13.8-2.el5 (that's on a default install). It's possible you did a minimal install or something

    • Fabian Scherschel Fabian Scherschel Jeff Has Moved

      @gomerx I dunno what image Linode uses and I installed before 5.3.

      @fabsh Maybe they use something streamlined. Default install is a bit bloated for a server.

      @gomerx They sure as hell don't use i386 ;)

      @fabsh Yes, that's the only thing I had lying around. My home server is an Athlon XP.
