@fontana I might be *way* out of my depth here, but doesnt the need for #AGPL prove that is *not* the case? or would JS be considered deriv?
-
@fontana isn't http://wordpress.org/news/2009/07/themes-are-gpl-too/ related here? cc: @bkuhn
-
@osamak, the conversation was a much more general one than that. I wasn't speaking to derivative work questions, but cultural control ones.
-
@fontana, lawyers for a decade have sought to trick me into opiniing re:specific derivative work questions. I never thought you'd be one too
-
@fontana Surely the actual code is licensed as stated in its comments (if at all) and the real question concerns compliance?
-
@fontana, I refer @-reply licensing questions to be redirected to <licensing@fsf.org>. In fairness, despite our friendship, I must do same.
-
@bkuhn oh, good idea.....thanks for getting back to me, though late and indirectly :)
-
@tekk, I meant to dent that to you as well. I forgot. But, yes, that's the same answer I always try to give when dented licensing questions.
-
@bkuhn Thanks. Wouldn't worry too much anyway, I always license !agpl to be absolutely sure I'm safe
-
@fontana You'll just have to troll a different way.

@fontana Before the rest of us will permit that proposal to enter incubation we need full and frank discussions and a formal vote.

@fontana Where's a major source of my pleasure in reading identica now, see? :-(

@vanden Ditto. The @bkuhn and @fontana dialogues are basically my favorite thing on the site. (I should probably find this !disturbing.)

@mindspillage That's a book title right there! "The @bkuhn and @fontana dialogues"!
-
@fontana I am in awe of your deep knowledge of GPLv3 arcana. And I love the reference to magic invocations in footnote 17.
-
@fontana Oh, I know understood there are several fn 16. Didn't realize "Part II" wasn't whole pdf. Fn 16 of Pt II really makes things clear.

@x1101 Difference is: server-side stuff (PHP, JSP, etc) is not distributed, client-side stuff (HTML, CSS, JS) is.
