Hotels are truly bizarre. You can't imagine how difficult it is to pay hotel rooms in advance for someone. They don't *want* money up front!

@bkuhn So true....
-
@bkuhn I know you can when you book with hotels.com
-
@bkuhn No, they want a source of credit should you trash your room. Cash doesn't help them once you're gone.
-
@bkuhn yeah, it's a legacy thing. It used to be that you didn't pay until you checked out.
-
@yamatt most places (at least States Side) still do it that way. I presume so they can add incidentals to the bill, rather than a new charge
-
@yamatt, well, yeah, of course that's standard hotel procedure. But the level of cluelessness about paying in advance is annoying.
-
@x1101, I'm paying for group of #Conservancy travelers going to a conference. I know some sites have prepaid discounts, but that's different.
-
@jasonriedy,that's not issue here. I'm willing to give them source of credit too in a pinch, but I haven't even gotten that far with them yet
-
@bkuhn yeah, I do find it weird when you turn up at a hotel and they seem surprised that you've already paid.
-
@x1101 yeah, that must be it. But it seems weirder to me to turn up to something I haven't paid for.
-
@ghostdancer, yes, I do this often. It always seems it's an education process for the hotel staff though. I am glad your hotel is better. :)
-
@ghostdancer I used to work at a hotel too, and they took a card imprint so if you didn't turn up they could charge you a small fee.
-
@yamatt we charge the first night if you don't cancel 48hrs in advance. And it's getting common use in hotels in Spain.
-
@bkuhn Then the hotel has to carry cash. Makes it a target for robberies.
-
@bkuhn No, my bosses just love the money. And if you pay in advance and then don't show, they don't mind they already have your money. :-)
-
@bkuhn maybe because they must give you what you paid for closing the door that someone else would pay a higher price for the same room?
