q: What would !AGPL for content be? a: src-requiring copyleft ie [A]GPL? http://forum.creativecommons.org/topic/587#post-1601

@mlinksva we don't even have a GPL for content in the cc world. no src requirement there whereas the GPL has one.

@zotz why not use the GPL?

@mlinksva it does not fit non-code well. source vs binaries for one thing. do we need a project to get wording right for src not for code?

@zotz wording of http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html#section1 seems general to me.

@mlinksva doesn't sit well for me when thinking of applying to art/music/etc.

@zotz meaning GPL overall, or /src=preferred for modification, object=!src/ specifically?

    • drew Roberts drew Roberts

@mlinksva at least the object/src stuff and perhaps the aiming at programs/code in general. possibly even emphasis of FSF to software...

@zotz yes those are all annoyances, unclear should be dealbreakers. I recognize they could've/might have some salutary effects as well…

@zotz …a)culture as software=future b)culture as sw good for freedom as more modular/more mass collab prod; makehappenfaster #speculation

@mlinksva FSF strong stance on SW Freedom but no for Art/Music Freedom may cause many problems. What is source for a statue? Sketches?

@zotz well you probably don't care for CC's ~stance on art freedom either, and implicitly (via #rms's) FSF's is about same

    • Mike Linksvayer Mike Linksvayer drew Roberts

@zotz and we're talking about the GPL, not the FSF's verbatim copying notice ;-)

@zotz src of course is problematic. are you arguing there shouldn't be an option for src-requiring copyleft for art?

    • Mike Linksvayer Mike Linksvayer drew Roberts

@zotz and note that src could in theory be similarly problematic for sw too where machine learning/self-mod involved #cuttingroomfloor

      http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gis.openstreetmap.legal/6261 fundamentally about figuring out src-requiring copyleft&non-sw #odbl

@mlinksva I don't, but at least CC doesn't take a strong stand in their main area. Whereas I like FSF strong stand in their main area but...

@mlinksva no, there should likely be one, but it needs a better definition and explanation than the GPL has.

@mlinksva that may indeed be a bridge to be crossed.
