OOo wants an ribbon like interface and people complain. Even if you don't like the ribbon, it's not like the current UI could get worse.
-
@jorge: Ha, totally agree!
-
@jorge: A ribbon won't be too bad, but I've converted my mom to OOo because there is no ribbon. I'd use the ribbon. She'd get confused.
-
@jorge the ribbon's a strange one, new Office users in my experience love it and those used to Office 2003 often hate it.
-
@jorge people who complain are people who should learn latex and quit bitchin.
-
@gamerchick02: I'm sure you'll be able to disable it like in Office
-
@edythemighty: Right, the whole planet should learn LaTeX to do presentations. Good luck with that. (It's what I use though)

@horseman: Nice. I'll have to do it with her. And I didn't know you could disable that ribbon... At the risk of sounding stupid, how?
-
@jorge word processors are for dummies. I count myself as one :D So what if they pander to dummies with the ribbon! Good on them!
-
@gamerchick02: I don't have an M$ machine nearby, but I think it's called classic view. And I sure hope OOo lets you disable it

@edythemighty @jorge lyx has a beamer template :) and yes, latex can/should replace all office apps (except spreadsheet, unfortunately)
-
@edythemighty Latex would help with that baby problem too ;)

@horseman: Thank you. Appreciate it.
-
@horseman: I like the ribbon... am I the only one?
-
@gamerchick02: Nah, I think it's a decent concept. It is hard to find anything in Office though
-
@dougierichardson I kind of hated the ribbons initially, but they aren't so bad once you get the hang of them.
-
@horseman: I've figured it out though. I like having everything "out there" and tabbed for access. I dunno. I did think I'd hate it.
-
@gamerchick02 @horseman I have no real preference. I have no aversion to the ribbon though.
-
@gamerchick02 I used Office w/ribbon (forget the version, recent however) for a couple of months. It was OK, but took some getting used to
-
@ronkjeffries: It does, but once you get used to it, it seems faster and easier to use.
-
@exador23 or just keep it in your pants. ;)
-
@jorge console-presenter!!
-
@mwhudson would be sweet if console-presenter could grab the first headline from each slide of an OOo presentation and display it awesomely
