@fontana, I recall complaining about this as not fitting w/ community cooperation under !AGPL when they started. @joindiaspora ignored me.

@mairin I'd love a disapora invite.
-
@mairin: I would love to get one !
-
@bkuhn They've intro page text saying "It's your data" type stuff. But, no TOS or privacy statement :-( @copiesofcopies said he'd enquire.
-
@bkuhn But, I don't know. !problematic at least. Once I noticed, I stopped beating the drum.
-
@bkuhn This I did not know. :-( I'll dig, and reach out, but will likely end up deleting my account.
-
@bkuhn Some code for !Diaspora is !free, and it's #federated. The worst case is fork. Worst case for #GP is total data destruction.
-
@bkuhn I think it was meant that joindiaspora.com didn't update its installation very often. !AGPL doesn't require running trunk.
-
@vanden checkout loquia.encyclomundi.org. a #faif elgg site w privacy policy and TOS. !parlementum
-
@cer Someone's been doing a fair bit of shameless plugs recently, eh? :P
-
@patrickniedzielski well it represents a fair amount of work and the more users the more interesting it becomes.
-
@patrickniedzielski and I promise to never criticize a project again for weak documentation. Its sooo much easier to im…
-
@cer I totally understand. I feel (basically) the same way about !hummstrumm. Though users are more important in a social network, of course
-
@cer And YES. In fact, I'm documenting all the features I've added right now. It's really important for libraries.
-
@bkuhn itd be worth worrying about if @joindiaspora wasnt deeply flawed and obsolete vs the wave of new !xmpp social frameworks. #deadhorse

@fontana They link to their github, so presumably that's up-to-date. Why are you and @bkuhn assuming joindiaspora.com violates !AGPL?
-
@tedks lawyers always assume the worst. That is, in fact, what they are paid to do.
-
@tedks well, maybe prepare for worst is what they are paid to do
-
@tedks I'd argue that unleashing a zombie hord is worse than violating AGPL, but that isn't really in the scope of @bku…
-
@fontana I'll obviously defer to you on that. So, is joindiaspora.com in violation of the !AGPL?
-
@tedks @fontana, it's not really likely @joindiaspora could violate !AGPL per se, since they refuse !AGPL'd contributions. We couldn't know.
-
@fontana, & that's the worst part: they can point to the github sources, knowing they had private mods not pushed there & nothing we can do.
-
@bkuhn from what I read you mean they don't play fair? if is true, why continue to promote diaspora?
-
@bkuhn that means we still need a FaiF facebook alternative?
-
@fontana,you can write proprietary sw in any language; This isn't proprietary, but same principle applies:freedom matters more than technology
-
@bkuhn indeed! Microblogging (or some variant) is way more useful that whatever people think Facebook does.

-
@singpolyma,when I see #Facebook over people's shoulders, it usually seems much like identi.ca, although FB's context screen seems easier.
-
@bkuhn they also have easier photo sharing, I think.
-
@bkuhn you know, actually inline with the post instead of "here's a link to this picture"
-
@bkuhn This is all very !disturbing to me. Not asking for tales out of school, but I'd had the sense connected to EM and freedombox.
-
@fontana Haskhell, perhaps? :P
-
@fontana Fair enough. Though, I half suspect cryptic stance assumed to ensure interest in fan base ;-)
-
@fontana Well, lack of TOS bothered. I've not had chance to dig for evidence, but @bkuhn's assertion of refusal of AGPL is #worrisome.
-
@bkuhn Diaspora fails. Buddycloud seems great IMO. It's almost finished and is the best design yet.
-
@fontana if that's what the original sw does, and they didn't modify the software, AFAICT it's enough for AGPLv3
-
@bkuhn this is true of pretty much any server-side program; you can't really tell what server is running, gotta trust the provider
-
@bkuhn ? run source pointed to. document behaviour differences. if no "client side" behaviour differences, then sure, no way to tell that.
-
@mairin hey I would like a diaspora invite!!!! I've inputted my name several times but never get a response!!!
-
@bkuhn in fact, @joindiaspora didn't ignore CLA complaints. you should pay more attention if you're going to talk so much shit.
-
@copiesofcopies, are you arguing that https://github.com/diaspora/diaspora/wiki/New-CLA--12-13-10 is not the current #CLA for #Diaspora?
-
@bkuhn I am not arguing that. That CLA was made in response to issues raised about their previous policy.
-
@copiesofcopies, #Diaspora ignored many of us, then, since so many were suggesting inbound=outbound to them instead of a VC-friendly #CLA.
-
@fontana !buddycloud is a great service. however I still wait for the release of the new stuff. have been using their channels service a lot
-
@ddevine Oh, forgot about that one. Will have to look into it.

@clacke I'm developing !concordance http://ur1.ca/4qqh3 which will help spawn more by making it easier to develop new !xmpp services

@arc Looks awesome. Will definitely keep that in mind.

@clacke http://ur1.ca/4qr8w is microblogging over !xmpp, the in-development extension being worked on to obsolete OStatus
