@fontana, I recall complaining about this as not fitting w/ community cooperation under !AGPL when they started. @joindiaspora ignored me.

@mairin, it's not completely clear to me that #Diaspora is for certain better than #Google+. VCs are heavily involved w/ Diaspora's future.

@bkuhn I'd be happier with #Diaspora's future if I could see any changes happening to it as a user, but there seem to be none

@bkuhn I'm !disturbed ∄ TOS for #Diaspora. But, much more by giving my social web to those who excel at extracting info from digital data.

    • Bradley M. Kuhn Bradley M. Kuhn Lars Wirzenius

@liw, You mean, source for the deployed #Diaspora version doesn't match the source they've released? If true, that's basically proprietary.

    • Bradley M. Kuhn Bradley M. Kuhn Brian van den Broek

@vanden, #Diaspora has no Terms of Service whatsoever? How do you know you still have rights to information uploaded to the site?

    • Bradley M. Kuhn Bradley M. Kuhn GNU Affero General Public Licence , Richard Fontana

@fontana, but, to my knowledge, doesn't #Diaspora require a #CLA that lets them avoid !AGPL requirements. (like #Harmony would do).

    • Brian van den Broek Brian van den Broek Aaron Williamson

@bkuhn They've intro page text saying "It's your data" type stuff. But, no TOS or privacy statement :-( @copiesofcopies said he'd enquire.

    • Bradley M. Kuhn Bradley M. Kuhn GNU Affero General Public Licence , Brian van den Broek

@vanden, I hope someone'll continue to point out that they refuse !AGPL'd contributions & makes no future guarantees source'll be available.

@bkuhn Some code for !Diaspora is !free, and it's #federated. The worst case is fork. Worst case for #GP is total data destruction.

@bkuhn I think it was meant that joindiaspora.com didn't update its installation very often. !AGPL doesn't require running trunk.

@fontana, this is the opposite of a #heehaw situation, isn't it? I'm truly confused. But the question is otherwise a good one!

    • Bradley M. Kuhn Bradley M. Kuhn Richard Fontana

@fontana, part of reason it can't succeed is b/c I know the meaning of #heehaw in this context. I thus think it is already our inside joke.

@fontana @tedks The problem with repo links is you need to provide the exact version of the code. A repo is always changing.

    • Bradley M. Kuhn Bradley M. Kuhn GNU Affero General Public Licence

@tedks @fontana, it's not really likely @joindiaspora could violate !AGPL per se, since they refuse !AGPL'd contributions. We couldn't know.

    • Bradley M. Kuhn Bradley M. Kuhn Richard Fontana

@fontana, & that's the worst part: they can point to the github sources, knowing they had private mods not pushed there & nothing we can do.

@fontana, that is definitely the intent of !AGPL. I believe it is properly implemented as such too, but maybe you disagree. :)

@bkuhn I am not arguing that. That CLA was made in response to issues raised about their previous policy.

@copiesofcopies, #Diaspora ignored many of us, then, since so many were suggesting inbound=outbound to them instead of a VC-friendly #CLA.
