Anyone still using ext3 !linux
-
@lstench Yes
-
@lstench yes :D
-
@lstench I am.
-
@lstench absolutely, on production machines, servers...
-
@lstench On production servers
-
@metalbyte but not the desktop?
-
@lstench on some of my systems, no pressing need to upgrade filesystems. I'll want to migrate to something that does snapshotting eventually
-
@lstench i know a couple distros still set it as the default for "/" and "/boot" (though I've even seen ext2 for boot!
-
@ghotir wow ext 2 huh. Yeah ext3 is what I tend to use.
-
@lstench ext3? my redhat 6.2 defaults to ext3.....
-
@lstench yeah, talk about playing it safe! ext3 is what i use for boot, too. ext4 for all others (was reiserfs until ext4 matured)
-
@tekk whatcha use redhat for?
-
@lstench I don't, the CD was released in 2000. Why aren't you on ext4?
-
@tekk Ouch, Just use to ext3 figure it's more stable so when offered the choice I always choose it.
-
@lstench nope, no more stable and worse performance. Unless you need to read from an os from before like 2008 there's no reason for 3
-
@tekk Okay I'll look into 4 :)
-
@lstench uhh... yeah?
-
@lstench just avoid btr, it's trouble atm
-
@lnxwalt280 oh, I thought that was fixed when I heard about it
-
@lnxwalt280 thanks for the heads up
-
@lstench Sure. I'm even on ext2 (with SSD) :)
-
@lstench its what I use for my storage partition and defaults when configuring work systems
-
@lstench Yes.
-
@lstench sure, production machines includes desktops
-
@metalbyte okay gotcha you feel no need to move to ext4
-
@lstench Yup. :)
-
@lstench still using ext3 (ext2 on /boot) and I doubt it will change in next few years
-
@darkestkhan I'm using ext4 for everything. Works a charm. No problems at all. Using kernel 2.6.35.13 and 2.6.38.8
-
@thomaslocke I had small problems with ext3 up to 2.6.32 - but it is mainly because my system is always under 100% CPU load
-
@darkestkhan I'm suspecting that I would hit some problems with ext4 (namely: fs crash)
