!OSCON @fontana,this is danger of @jonobacon's "COMPANY <-> COMMUNITY": that a PR job,"Community Manager",is central to community. It's not!

@jonobacon says he wants be "harnessing the community". dict says "harness v. exploit the power of". !Canonical's plans are !disturbing.
-
@bkuhn considering how you just tagged all of them we're about to find out :P
-
To be clear, IMO much of what Linus Torvalds does is great, but conflict resolution is probably where most errors happen in #Linux community

@bkuhn May some kind of "better know freedom's enemy" thing.
-
@bkuhn clearly Brazil is not the "real world". Only white America

@bkuhn clearly Brazil is not the "real world". Only white America ;) http://sngpl.ma/t4D22
-
@fontana, IMO "COMMUNITY <-> COMPANY" as a mission statement, as @jonobacon's !OSCON slide seemed to indicate, is !disturbing.
-
@bkuhn You know what they say about "those who write the history"?
-
@bkuhn I wonder who Jono Bacon is ??? Or thinks he is...
-
@bkuhn What about Homebrew computer club, in the 70's ???
-
!OSCON: @jonobacon makes a sadly inappropriate comment about the genitalia of #Tron guy in a photo on one of his slides. Quite !disturbing.
-
@bkuhn can we get a quote? this stuff should be recorded
-
@fontana,I didn't fully understand what @jonobacon said about #blacklisting job applicants at #OpenSource companies. But IMO it does happen.
-
@bkuhn thought you were just blanking on the name
-
@tekk,sorry,I didn't know #tronguy was the canonical hash tag for him;I didn't know about him until this morning. Now I've read ur1.ca/4svh8
-
!OSCON @jonobacon says Community Managers should lead governance. IMO NPO's should define governance for #FLOSS projects, not for-profit orgs

@bkuhn How do you mean? Like Jobsites blacklisting OpenSource companies?
-
@fontana I have to admit the longevity of shuttleworth as Ubuntu project lead is #disturbing me for me.
-
@fontana how any org handles leadership change is a defining moment for its governance model. Until that happens, model isn't fully tested.
-
@bkuhn IMO that's nonsense. Public Relations in no way implies 'community', a completely different skill is required
-
@bkuhn so is consultant. Everyone is a consultant these days.
-
@marjoleink sorry replied to the wrong dent. :-s
-
@fontana How much crappier would the US be if George Washington had accepted being crowned King of America instead of stepping down as pres.
-
@fontana I revel in your freedom to make technology usages choices which cross simplistic corporate affiliation fencelines.
-
@bkuhn How many software Developers are celebrities outside of the amount of money they make?
-
@marjoleink,that's exactly my point;"Community Management" as a profession is hoodwink to convince ppl to volunteer for a for-profit company
-
@fontana well regardless of the OS, it is a netbook after all, I don't expect it to be that usable for work.
-
@fontana the utouch stuff is not bad tech. But like everything Canonical...its mired under the corporate contributor agreement.
-
@fontana I personally can live with the new one in order to do my work as a package maintainer in Fedora. I do not _like_ it.
-
@fontana in the context of utouch, it will be interesting to see if the new cla eases any future attempts to get things submitted into GNOME
-
@jargon kick me in the nutsack
-
@fontana netbooks OEMs marketed a new usage case to help justify devices to consumers. Tablets are going to fill the marketed usage case.
-
@fontana that's only because you haven't experience the UI glory that is qnx6.
-
@mcnalu who else would want to kick me in the nutsack? I'm a nice guy no.
-
@jargon hee
-
@jargon ok, go get it over with :-(
-
@bkuhn no it‘s not! cimmunity management has nothing to do with profit or not but everything with community; most organizations don‘t have 1
-
@sandersch oh wait. I thought a kick in the nutsack was a sign of affection.
-
@mcnalu no, that's when you tickle my nutsack
-
@sandersch :O
-
@fontana @bkuhn I see you chose the #disturbing option over the informative one.
-
@bkuhn I haven't heard of any book, but have heard many discussions of this kind. Maybe I'm not managerial enough to know of such books.
