I just found the ##googleplus channel on !Freenode and I'm wondering why it has the double hash tag. I asked in there but no one answers yet
-
@silner cause it's a meta channel! it's a channel about another channel
-
@silner: I think double hashes are for non-official channels.
-
@silner Double # are for unofficial channels; strictly speaking, the single-# ones should only be used by people with a claim to that name.
-
@bugabundo OK I've never heard that one before :)
-
@silner In practice, not a lot of people actually bother with that, but that's the most likely reason in this case.
-
@psquid Yeah I suppose the #googleplus channel could be reserved for Google representatives?
-
@jargon: Thanks for the confirmation. I wasn't completely sure.
-
@silner if its doublehashed it means its not an official channel of the project.
-
@silner the double # means its not an official channel. Windows channel has same. It just means its an unofficial channel
-
@silner because it's not part of the official, registered namespace
