@fontana ooh latex, someone cared about making this look pretty
-
!OSCON: @fontana "red tape maximalist #CLA added w/ their inequality means disincentives & barriers;Reference: #mmeeks essay on !OpenOffice"
-
#OSCON @fontana's time's up but still talking;should've reminded him about it before he started. He's eating up @kaz & @copiesofcopies' time
-
@fontana,it was not my fault at all! I asked my question BEFORE you were out of time (but you almost were), which is why I wanted to be 1st
-
@fontana, I rarely believe in "All's Well That Ends Well". Indeed, your 10 mi overage propagated in schedule thereafter interrupted your ☕∀!
-
@fontana,I'm pretty sure you said that. I probably put in quotes b/c it was what you said. I'm sorry if I misquoted you. We can check audio!
-
@fontana, e.g.: developers assign to #Conservancy b/c they support !GPL enforcement but don't want to be involved in it day-to-day.
Christopher Allan Webber likes this. -
@bkuhn I tought the FSF did GPL enforcement?
-
@fontana That's *exactly* why I wanted to (c) assign my MediaGoblin contributions to the FSF and why I wanted optional copyright assignment.
Jason Riedy likes this. -
@fontana FSF has decided partial copyright assignment isn't currently possible but if that changes I am likely to want to do so again.
-
@fontana Probably (certainly) true, many contributors signing just so they can get their code in. Easier to gauge if ©-assgn optional though
-
@fontana I think we'd still see quite a few sign over if an option. My perspective could be distorted by where I sit on FOSS spectrum though
-
@fontana I hope for / look forward to those contributions in the future however! :) They are already welcome in the present.
-
@fontana I can't mis the point. I am the point.
-
@sandersch One day your mind will slip, and you'll miss knowing the point.
-
@fontana makes things easier I imagine, if they have caa on a project they know that they can enfore no matter what snippet was taken
-
@fontana vs having to check if the part of the project that was taken is assigned to them or not
-
@fontana but they'd still have to check case by case, not clear cut "we can enforce this package but not this one"
-
@fontana bear in mind that this is pure speculation :P
-
@fontana,ISTR I discussed this issue on http://faif.us/cast/2011/jan/04/0x06/ Did you have questions based on what I discussed on #FaiFCast?
-
@fontana I think the key is that *contributions* are relicensed. Though I think that's an ex post facto justification :)
-
@bkuhn This is definitely more entertaining than Netflix. The more we know: because knowledge is power and knowing is 1/2 the battle. GI-JOE
-
@fontana,I've wondered if it'd be better long term for software freedom if code where proprietary relicensing will occur to stay proprietary
-
@fontana seems obvious to me, they perform relicensing, but not proprietary relicensing.
-
@bkuhn all we get is a stupid flag for labor day D:
-
@bkuhn sorry, that's suppossed to be @laurelrusswum, look in the context for thhe message ;)
-
@fontana, I believe issues of © assignment have a connection with issues of © assignment. I'm amazed that you disagree w/ that tautology.
-
@fontana, I'm not going to debate publicly private negotiations btw !RedHat & !FSF you initiated. It's !disturbing that you seek to do so.
-
@fontana I admire your effort to invalidate his troll.
-
@fontana how could they? It was under GPL, I suppose, wasn't it?
-
@fontana Is there any documentation available where one can learn more about the incident?
-
@fontana Thanks, an interesting story!
