is it a good idea to install #iceweasel 5 from http://mozilla.debian.net ? !debian #squeeze
about 10 months ago from xmpp-
@cpunk yes
-
@cpunk Absolutely! Worked like a charm to me :)
-
@cpunk It is. But i'd rather use the unstable repo since it is already in there :)
-
@kete @ruipb @danielmarti thx! I'll give it a try then... hoping, it won't break my add-ons - #torbutton seems not to be supported, yet
-
@cpunk perfect. I ran 4 and now 5 from the same repo. No issues.
-
@srini sounds promising... :)
-
@vinc17 @cpunk mozilla.debian.net version of Iceweasel 5 is a squeeze-backport though, so should in theory be better if you run squeeze, no?
-
@oberger nope, I'm not using ubiquity... thanks for the hint
-
@danielmarti hmm, stable and testing, ok - but unstable comes not in mind here...
-
@cpunk i am not sure, but i bet the iceweasel 5.0 package in mozilla.debian.net is of the same version as of that in unstable :)
-
@cpunk i added the ''release'' channel to my sources.list . works fine
-
@danielmarti @cpunk the m.d.n page says to get release (v5) for unstable to use "apt-get install iceweasel" so I imagine they'e very similar
-
@zykotick9 if not the same :P
-
@danielmarti probably same version yes, but I'd imagine some backporting has to take place for the non-unstable releases. Or exactly same:)
-
@zykotick9 you might be right. But a program's unstability doesn't normally come from its dependencies :)
-
@zykotick9 I'm running debian stable and wasn't sure if it would be a good idea to add the unstable-repo - or a backport for squeeze instead
-
@danielmarti yes. But I'm running stable - didn't know of it would be better to break my system using backports or unstable... ;)
-
@cpunk do NOT add the sid repo to squeeze! I'd recommend adding backports and m.d.n. chroot if you want unstable -i haven't tried this yet
-
@zykotick9 I'd never do that. But @danielmarti implied that, saying iceweasel from m.d.n and sid are the same...
-
@cpunk i meant that iceweasel 5.0 itself would be equally unstable in both cases. But for squeeze use m.d.n, it's prepared for the situatuon
-
@cpunk In fact in squeeze proper it's 3.5.16. I'm using squeeze-backports from mozilla.debian.net which is at iceweasel 5 at the moment.
-
@mamue: so did I now - Iceweasel 5 looks great: starts slow on my machine, but works fine!
