!fedora: Is it possible to change the desktop environment via preupgrade? (I've used preupgrade before, but I don't remember...)

@hunger Do you mean switching from !gnome to !kde while upgrading? Just install the one you want, then upgrade
-
@rahulsundaram I'm aware that preupgrade is for upgrading. But, I thought it might be possible to add/remove packages during the process
-
@trashbird1240 Thanks. I figured something like that would be the recommended solution...
-
@hunger I think it is better to keep the upgrade process separate from adding or removing packages
-
@rahulsundaram Thanks. I know I could add/remove packages via a CD/DVD upgrade but that overwrites everything, while preupgrade does not
-
@hunger Preupgrade downloads the packages and points installer to it. Otherwise, the process is no different from a media based upgrade.
-
@rahulsundaram If you use preupgrade, system directories are preserved and updated. If you use CD/DVD, system directories are erased. No?
-
@hunger No. The actual upgrade process is exactly the same. Preupgrade merely points the installer to the locally downloaded packages
-
@rahulsundaram So, is it possible to add/remove packages with preupgrade? And, why do you say it's a bad idea to add/remove during upgrade?
-
@hunger Whatever is possible with one is possible with other. It is a bad idea because it makes it harder to debug any potential issues
-
@rahulsundaram K, thanks a bunch!
-
@hunger Better idea might be to remove both then upgrade. THen install what you like. Faster and a little cleaner
