@johnnynull Ok it's just a system wide session in any case.
Wednesday, 31-Aug-11 22:25:22 UTC from web-
thing i most hate about !kde activities : when returning to a previous activity, i am rarelly in the same virtual desktop that i left it on
-
@johnnynull no excuse here ... !kde activities really helpfull and cannot think on using a computer without them
-
@pereiraalex what's the usecase?
-
@scumpeter my usecase..my way of using PCs.i am not going to try to sell you activities or say they are the best.if you dont like it, its ok
-
@w4rr10r actually ... that is funny because i dont use panels ... it one of those things from ... ever that i never liked
-
@pereiraalex No need to sell them to me. I'm curious how people use them. Perhaps they can make my life easier too and I don't know yet.
-
@johnnynull i dont actually understand how you may ask that.... maybe if sometime on irc or something we can talk about it
-
@scumpeter hum... i made a video actually on youtube of how i use my computer : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rwsqKLEU6c .
-
@scumpeter its old ( kde 4.3.0 ) and lots have change from that time, but the basic is there.
-
@pereiraalex I couldn't find use for them - but it's nice to know that if I ever will, they will be waiting. :) !kde
-
@johnnynull sorry , its hard to talk about it in here. better on some chat thing like IRC or something
-
@pereiraalex thnx. I'll take a look.
-
@w4rr10r I don't think that's bug. You probably mean XEmbed icons - that's protocol limitation, they can be displayed only once.
-
@w4rr10r That's why KDE came up with new, dbus based protocol. It doesn't matter if widget is on desktop or on panel.
-
@w4rr10r bug ? what do you mean?systray or taskmanager?well 4.3.0 was a long time ago , i dont remember if i had that bug. dont have it now
-
@johnnynull worse reasoning ever. go measure how much bloat it actually adds. you'll be surprised.
-
@sredna which bug ? can you point it to me ?
-
@w4rr10r ohhh wait , i know that bug ... i have not had that problem in a long time. and i remember that bug , its the old xembed protocol
-
@sredna thanks !! i didnt know there was a bug reported for it!!! i guess the feeling that i am the only one with my usage case is is fading
-
@johnnynull and if i removed every feature i don't use that you do?
-
@johnnynull we try very hard to get a variety of usage out of each component, and keep the components reasonable.
-
@johnnynull yanking the activities code would make no difference you would ever notice, but many others would, immeidately and negatively
-
@johnnynull note that activities uses same/similar facilities that rating/tagging in dolphin does (and a dozen other places)
-
@johnnynull So we should all use windows?
-
@johnnynull You are complaining about effort because a small relative number of people use it. That's a apt response I think
-
@johnnynull Sort of like complaining that OpenBSD or FreeBSD still exist. It's very relative depending on your view
-
@johnnynull I'd argue not. I think the % of people using it far outweigh the % increase in code it needs to be implemented.
-
@johnnynull Wasn't trying to win you over to using it at all. Just thought your criteria for judging it bloat was unwarranted
