@w4rr10r actually ... that is funny because i dont use panels ... it one of those things from ... ever that i never liked

    • Eike Günther Eike Günther Alexandre Pereira

@pereiraalex No need to sell them to me. I'm curious how people use them. Perhaps they can make my life easier too and I don't know yet.

@johnnynull i dont actually understand how you may ask that.... maybe if sometime on irc or something we can talk about it

@scumpeter its old ( kde 4.3.0 ) and lots have change from that time, but the basic is there.

@w4rr10r I don't think that's bug. You probably mean XEmbed icons - that's protocol limitation, they can be displayed only once.

      Thursday, 25-Aug-11 19:06:10 UTC
    • Sebastian Krzyszkowiak Sebastian Krzyszkowiak

@w4rr10r That's why KDE came up with new, dbus based protocol. It doesn't matter if widget is on desktop or on panel.

      Thursday, 25-Aug-11 19:07:00 UTC
    • Alexandre Pereira Alexandre Pereira

@w4rr10r bug ? what do you mean?systray or taskmanager?well 4.3.0 was a long time ago , i dont remember if i had that bug. dont have it now

@ticho That is one nice thing: the powerful features are there but not forced on you if you don't want them (yet?) !KDE

@johnnynull worse reasoning ever. go measure how much bloat it actually adds. you'll be surprised.

      Thursday, 25-Aug-11 20:47:50 UTC
    • Alexandre Pereira Alexandre Pereira

@sredna which bug ? can you point it to me ?

      Thursday, 25-Aug-11 22:33:24 UTC
    • Alexandre Pereira Alexandre Pereira

@w4rr10r ohhh wait , i know that bug ... i have not had that problem in a long time. and i remember that bug , its the old xembed protocol

      Thursday, 25-Aug-11 22:34:50 UTC
    • Alexandre Pereira Alexandre Pereira

@sredna thanks !! i didnt know there was a bug reported for it!!! i guess the feeling that i am the only one with my usage case is is fading

    • Aaron Seigo Aaron Seigo

@johnnynull and if i removed every feature i don't use that you do?

      Friday, 26-Aug-11 14:54:10 UTC
    • Aaron Seigo Aaron Seigo

@johnnynull we try very hard to get a variety of usage out of each component, and keep the components reasonable.

      Friday, 26-Aug-11 14:55:03 UTC
    • Aaron Seigo Aaron Seigo

@johnnynull yanking the activities code would make no difference you would ever notice, but many others would, immeidately and negatively

      Friday, 26-Aug-11 14:55:38 UTC
    • Aaron Seigo Aaron Seigo

@johnnynull note that activities uses same/similar facilities that rating/tagging in dolphin does (and a dozen other places)

      Friday, 26-Aug-11 14:56:51 UTC
    • Roger Pixley Roger Pixley

@johnnynull So we should all use windows?

      Sunday, 28-Aug-11 05:07:26 UTC
    • Roger Pixley Roger Pixley

@johnnynull You are complaining about effort because a small relative number of people use it. That's a apt response I think

      Sunday, 28-Aug-11 05:13:49 UTC
    • Roger Pixley Roger Pixley

@johnnynull Sort of like complaining that OpenBSD or FreeBSD still exist. It's very relative depending on your view

      Sunday, 28-Aug-11 05:22:14 UTC
    • Roger Pixley Roger Pixley

@johnnynull I'd argue not. I think the % of people using it far outweigh the % increase in code it needs to be implemented.

      Monday, 29-Aug-11 01:40:55 UTC
    • Roger Pixley Roger Pixley

@johnnynull Wasn't trying to win you over to using it at all. Just thought your criteria for judging it bloat was unwarranted
