@jabz not sure what #jabber or the console have to do with #bash or #zsh, but i've always enjoyed !bitlbee

@jabz Finch is pretty good. It's basically like Pidgin, but it runs in the console.

@jabz Interested to see what people come up with, if you don't mind cc-ing answers?

@silner @jabz isn't a console client outdated by the nature of being a console client? ie "from an era before GUIs were the norm"

@jabz If you're an !Emacs guy, http://emacs-jabber.sourceforge.net is one of the few addons that I find easy to install and handle.

@jabz !Jabber console clients are no good. Best I could manage was bitlbee & irssi together. Works nicely in gnome-terminal

@binyamin i have yet to find anything superior, console or gui, that beats !bitlbee coupled with !irssi for chat

@thistleweb I don't think I need to explain why I am not in agreement with this comment (assuming it's not meant in jest).

@thistleweb Dunno. I wouldn't call !identicurse outdated. Probably has the most complete Identica support of any app I've tried, cc @jabz

@eightyeight The main downfall I experienced with that is unless you have a good terminal non-latin scripts won't render properly (esp. rtl)

@silner I think I will try finch, irssi with XMPP plugin and poezio. They look promising. Thanks everybody for your quick reply.

@psquid on that note I'm going to give #identicurse go. I've not even installed yet and I already approve.

@jabz: Thanks; finch & poezio R new to me. Might look @ 'em myself. I'm not a cli natural, but some apps are easy enough for me to manage :)

@jabz have you tried pidgin, kopete or empathy? They all support Jabber protocol.
