@jonkulp http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ab8GtuPdrUQ how can you not remember it?
-
I wonder how expensive it would be to incorporate a Faraday cage while I'm re-doing the walls in my house...
-
@windigo Grounded metal mesh behind the sheetrock!
-
@windigo sounds worrisome. Make sure you have a witness so you can at least win a Darwin award should it go horribly wrong.
-
@nybill How much does metal mesh go for these days? :)
-
@linuxchiq Might as well - I'll have the walls open anyways! :)
-
@nybill That brings to mind a lot of interesting possibilities. :))
-
@mcnalu http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faraday_cage - While Wikipedia has lightning bolts in the picture, it really just blocks RF signals. :)
-
@gomerx Who needs WIFI encryption when you have a Faraday cage!
-
@johnnynull That would definitely be simpler - I wonder if the cost is comparable...
-
@windigo ah, i thought you needed it to protect against dodgey wiring and/or lightening strikes.
-
@nybill I find naming my access point something like 'Virus_test' or 'come_get_butt_raped' is also effective.
-
@gomerx LOL now I feel silly for my random string of letters and numbers. I must get more creative.
-
@gomerx TBH, I get upset at people with mean SSIDs broadcasting that shite all over the place. Hide it, don't tell me "YouGoAway".
-
@nybill I actually use a maximum length WPA2 key, but sometimes I think it's overkill. Doesn't hurt to be safe, though.
-
@quaid No, that makes sense. It's much more fun to broadcast an SSID then complain that people are eavesdropping on my 'private' network.
-
@gomerx I mean my AP's name a random string. I use wpa2 as well. My key was generated from a whole sentience.
-
@mcnalu Heh, well, I do have some questionable wiring in my house, and lightning's no good - so an additional bonus? :)
-
@nybill was that sentence misspelled and everything?
-
@windigo yes, sounds like a great plan. Oh, but the windows?
-
@x1101 You know I no longer remember what it was!
-
@nybill I actually just use 'gomer' as my SSID. To their credit, over half the people in my area are using something other than 'NETGEAR.'
-
@nybill I was messing with you, since you typed sentience rather than sentence (this is rich, me poking fun at someone about spelling)
-
@quaid I don't actually use an offensive name, though. Just something to differentiate me from everybody els.
-
@x1101 LOL I probably picked the wrong suggestion from spell check. But, I'm sure I had it mangled beforehand. :P
-
@quaid the sexually explicit SSIDs are even worse :/
-
@gomerx: I name mine (sometimes funny stuff), but normally don't broadcast the SSID.
-
@nybill that just means I am in good company!
-
@nernie It's annoying that broadcasting SSID is the default and some devices don't work without it. Maybe that'll change one day.
-
@johnnynull Awesome - thanks!
-
@windigo *I've fallen down the stairs and can't get up. Lucky I have my emergency cell phone* ..."Damn you paint!"
Jeff Has Moved likes this. -
@nybill Heh, emergency cellphone? I'll have to get an emergency netbook. Still plenty of wifi inside!
-
@windigo emailing emergency services to see if they do SIP for an emergency call
-
@thistleweb That would be best, since I can never remember their main number. "0-118-999... what was that next number again? Blast!"
-
@jonkulp that was the start of the IT Crowd new emergency number, which I guess means you got the reference?
-
@jonkulp so you half got the reference? this is starting to confuse me. Can I ssh into your brain for a bit and see if I can understand?
-
@jonkulp I can hum the song, which got me the first couple numbers - but that middle part I lose. It ends in 725.... 3, of course. :D
