Still installing Vim. (Well, currently Python. Apparently the default config pulls that in for vim.) #scrollingtextscreensaver #freebsd
-
@ajpaulson It's the first port I'm installing, so there's a lot of other big common things getting pulled in.
-
@ajpaulson Also, ports opts (by default) for a fairly heavy config, including both Perl and Python scripting, so those are pulled in too.
-
@psquid emacs just needs lisp :D
-
@darwinsurvivor I'm pretty sure one of the dependencies further down the tree is pulling in X too. :/
-
@darwinsurvivor Next time I'll have to go with vim-lite, this is rather ridiculous.
-
@psquid you are making me want to try emacs again :)
-
@ajpaulson I think the problem is that it's pretty much an everything conf. So it pulls in lots of things, which in turn also pull in lots.
-
@ajpaulson There is vim-lite with a much more reasonable quantity of dependencies, and that seems the better option, for future use.
-
@ajpaulson Bear in mind I'm doing a pure-ports install; no pkg_add at all, so each dep has to be compiled.
-
@ajpaulson And as I said before, the port for vim also assumes by default that several large deps are wanted.
-
@psquid true plus mine didn't add python or perl compatibility :(
-
@ajpaulson Honestly, I'm not too bothered about having those supported. BUT, I want both anyway, so I'd still have to install them later. :)
-
@psquid you realize that you could pkg_add this stuff right?
-
@psquid you know, those fancy newfangled binary packages that don't force you to compile? :P
-
@tekk Mixing pkg_add and ports is not a good idea, though, and I intend to install at least some of it from ports.
-
@psquid well I'm gonna have to figure out how to get them on my VM tomorrow. bed time for this brain surgeon. good luck
