sorry to be ranting so much about !ubuntu, but why does it drain more of my laptop's battery on normal usage than ... xp/vista?
-
@animaster: most likely because you haven't set your power options to be a little more conservative.
-
@animaster you could always try out the battery optimized ubuntu spin-off, which I can't remember the name of now...
-
@lunisneko thanks for ur reply. can u point out how i can configure it to be more conservative?
-
@lunisneko I have used PowerTOP to turn off some unnecessary feature too.
-
@animaster: cpufreq applets for XFCE and Gnome and probably KDE would be the simplest way
-
@ragnarokangel @animaster yer not thinking of geteasypeasy.com
-
@animaster the kernel's power management needs to be improved. i'm running !karmic though and I think devicekit has helped alot in that area
-
@mcnee mmm, maybe? Not really sure, it was mentioned in passing in an article I read...
-
@animaster Using the latest mplayer makes me able to play highly quality H.264 video. Running on an old P4 and intrepid ibex.
-
@cabrey so they have improved the power management on !karmic? maybe I should wait for it ... IMHO there are so many problems in !jaunty.
-
@ragnarokangel so there's another version of !ubuntu which emphasizes on battery power? sweet!
-
@sobotka yes, sony just sucks in that area. but since I have bought this VAIO, I need to get every feature works on the laptop.
-
@iamaruntimeerror thanks for letting me know that. do u, by any chance, have link to a guide about installing the latest #mplayer?
-
@iamaruntimeerror btw, by "highly quality H,264 video", did u mean 1080p H.264 video?
-
@animaster I think he was talking about the lpia port of ubuntu, but that's being discontinued. and yes, in my experience, karmic is better
-
@animaster easypeasy was around before the UNR, I don't remember all the differences between EP, UNR, eeebuntu, and the mix...
-
@animaster what's this I hear about ubuntu optimized for battery life? Been looking for one of those (other than netbook remix)
-
@bookhling cabrey told me that it is "lpia port of ubuntu" but it's being discontinued, while mcnee told me that it was geteasypeasy.com
-
@animaster don't know, haven't tried either, but try on an old xp box
-
@animaster If you are using Ibex or newer, just sudo apt-get install mplayer and you should be set. 1080 big buck bunny plays fine.
