I don't understand this new !Identica. It looks like Yahoo! Koprol to me.
-
Kecewa ya?
-
@adhisimon masih belum ngerti. Tapi, sepertinya begitu.
-
!identica is not a !microblogging site anymore. In my opinion, they betray their user (at least me). !identicafails
Marjolein Katsma and سليمان like this. -
I think maybe having a stream-oriented interface option in 1.1.x might be a nice fix for you.
-
@azzorcist it ISN'T !identica any more. no microblogging, and a bunch of 'fluff' features nobody asked for.
Venko likes this. -
@marjoleink from Choqok, I see it, and use it just the same
Jason Riedy likes this. -
Similarly, the interface from Pidgin's the same...
-
@marjoleink Ok, actually, seems the messages lose a bit of context when they are posted webby then appear via pidgin. hm.
-
Yeah, apart from missing nick tags, sometimes, it's more or less the same in API clients
-
I saw posts saying they're bringing back !xmpp and Evan was talking about optioning types of threading
-
I like the new interface, 4 occasional use, but I'd love there 2 be a regression option 4 those who disapprove. Then we'd all B happy :)
-
There is that option; you can set up another site that federates with Identi.ca. One of the nice things about federation!
-
That's true. I'm not a big website user, but this update was interesting enough to get me here. I'll probably regress to !xmpp in time tho
-
@silner basic rule of major service/software uypdates: 1. keep functionality 2. make all new functionality an option. #everyonehappy
-
maybe it's a trend in FOSS currently to have breaking design which frustrating people
Marjolein Katsma and Lohan G like this. -
Yes, that's our goal!
Lohan G likes this. -
lol :D
-
we are animals who love our uses, and afraid of change (and also a little bit lazy for changes)
-
@emegeve Changes are good if they keep the idioms and logic the early adopters found valueable.
-
Erm, what's your goal? (Genuinely, I can't tell which notice you're replying to … or whether there's humour)
Marjolein Katsma likes this. -
One thing we keep talking about with future upgrades is providing a separate interface for people to evaluate before general release.
Graham Perrin likes this. -
It's difficult. And, I think that many people on identi.ca used the site *because* it had an outdated interface, not in spite of it.
-
that's a very good idea!
-
Yeah, but it's a lot of work. Also, difficult to maintain data integrity. You end up building three s…
-
Excellent idea.
-
I approve of this "beta" interface idea.
-
Best part would hopefully be, when you need to roll out the upgrade for everyone, it should just be "Change a DNS rule and magic happens".
-
@evan Like a preprod seperated server, or an option to add beta / production updates ?
-
@jankusanagi remember context is broken in threads! I cannot see what you are replying to. *what* do you see from choqok?
-
Though I personally find this current look-and-feel a bit fugly, waiting for custom themes to come back.
-
@evan how can you even suggest that as a solution? you do NOT see what is here, a site is not a proxy for every convo.
Marjolein Katsma likes this. -
@evan that should only be a matter of user interface & config options. You should be able to perform most backend changes without troubles
Marjolein Katsma likes this. -
@evan WHO are you replying to and WHAT is your goal? please remember you are replying in a thread that no longer has context!
-
And although I'm actually liking this new threaded view, would be definately nice to have a linear form option.
-
@emegeve there's a lot of change I'd love but it hasn't happened. all effort seems to have gone into breaking functionality
-
I agree. I think switching from threaded to stream and back will be a UI enhancement in 1.1.
-
Identi.ca is already my excuse to quit twitter, but if it can kill facebook too? I'm up for that. G+ (and everything else google) Sucks.
-
@evan about time you're even _considering_ letting people actually test.
-
Another option will be to select which kind of notices you want to see -- just events, everything but bookmarks, that kind of thing.
Kent Fredric and Hugh Barnes like this. -
I replied to a notice from Evan, the result appears to be addressed to a different user (not to Evan) … and so on. http://ur1.ca/54p9c
-
The software has been available for 6 months. We've been giving people free eval sites that whole time on http://status.net/.
-
@evan an 'outdated' nioterface? that's what we have now. before 0.9.7 the interface was actually more advanced and open.
Marjolein Katsma likes this. -
@evan if you really thnik that there mist be a serious disconnect between what you think and how & why people actually used the site
-
Really? You can't say anything positive about this? Personally, I think StatusNet is massively better than it was a couple days ago.
Dvd Mrsdn likes this. -
Could you write a wiki page explaining the new stream concept? (assuming there is no page already)
-
Thanks! @marjoleink holds us to a high standard, which I definitely appreciate.
Graham Perrin likes this. -
@evan I don't see that at all. the *data* should remain the same, only the view is different. if you can't do that you have a design error
-
@evan THAT DOESN'T HELP! it's the view of the data on THIS site that is the problem. how can you not see that?
Marjolein Katsma likes this. -
http://identi.ca/notice/84187612 and some other notices addressed to @evan do not appear at http://identi.ca/evan/replies
-
@mattl Really. there is NOTHING I like, only broken *basic* functionality and useless fluff that gets in the way
-
I think Marjolein is trying to say that, in the threaded view, children are all of the first parent, not nested, breaking context.
Marjolein Katsma likes this. -
@marjoleink features were stipped for a pretty face. i'm failing to see the value of 1.0
Marjolein Katsma likes this. -
( You can infer context by reading the *whole* thread, but FFFUUUU. Also, "3 replies" my ass. )
-
@emegeve broken functionality is never for the better...
-
That's because I've had @marjoleink blocked for years.
-
@kentnl that may be symptomatic of http://status.net/open-source/issues/3358 unpredictable addressing when replying in conversation
-
@emegeve ...you get feedback on changes by letting people TEST an interface, not by pushing betas into production and pissing them off
-
@eightyeight Which features? I might be biased by my !heybuddy-filtered view of Identi.ca, but I haven't noticed a lot of loss.
-
Agreed, There's not usually a good reason to need to have a site "down" for 3 days for an upgrade if you have deployment sorted out.
-
I am so confused ....
Marjolein Katsma and Graham Perrin like this. -
@windigo 4: after voting in a poll, you get _every_ vote after your own. very noisy.
-
@ghostdancer I'm not afraid: I've been pushing for functional changes since I joined more than three years ago...
-
@ghostdancer I never push for loss of functionality though, quite the opposite. as you can see now.
-
@emegeve actually, you can keep everyone happy. provided the software is nimble enough and don't break existing functionality.
-
@emegeve basic design. you change the data schema taking care not to throw things away and keeping new functionality optional.
-
@evan 'enhancement' my foot. it needs to be in 1.0 because it's broken now.
-
Just take your time, you'll get it. :)
-
@evan and why can't we choose yet? that has been a long-time wish already. settings and options are lagging way behind.
-
is http://identi.ca/notice/84187873 a response to http://identi.ca/notice/84187812 and is it tongue-in-cheek or genuine?
-
ha ha only serious
-
@evan your loss, not mine. and no news to me.
march likes this. -
@windigo sure you're 'biased' ;) we're basically talking about the functionality as implemented in the web UI. come over here and see :)
-
@eightyeight then why aren't my @replies 'stripped'? but where/when they are that's a bad [BUG]
-
@evan you may improves, but don't break what you've got in the past. More users on fb, but twitter shouldn't change to be like fb
Marjolein Katsma and Azlan like this. -
It seems #newidentica tries to be everything to everyone *except* Identica for identicats :(
-
Also, *this* is what I hate about twitter. You never see discussions with randoms and twitter devs. Twitter is pious and antisocial.
Hex likes this. -
@marjoleink are you typing the @-reply by hand? it's not stripping them, only not prepending them as it used to
-
I've seen enough OS projects with devs who are hands-on and talking to their users to know big companies like Google have no excuse.
Marjolein Katsma likes this. -
^Fuuuuuu , replied to myself -_- .
-
Are you doing that by clicking on the "arrow curving back" button?
-
Side note: G+ , Twitter and Facebook are what I'm now starting to call "anti-social-media".
-
Yeah, its just scrolling back to find the last time you said something to click the right arrow is hard -_-.
Marjolein Katsma likes this. -
Ah, that's interesting! Might be why people are having problems with addressing; they think reply box is for last notice in thread.
Marjolein Katsma likes this. -
@eightyeight since realising the addressing bug I'm explicitly using @ within notices in the hope that the addressee will not be omitted
-
Yeah, id say logically I'd assume a message is a response to the precedent by default, not the parent ~50 msgs away.
-
@marjoleink I logged on to the web UI to take a look; quite a bit different, and a lot of random stuff I'm not really too interested in...
-
@marjoleink ...but overall it just seemed like a nicer layout. Honestly, I might not have used any features that are currently busted. :)
-
@eightyeight Ah, okay - I've been getting poll responses, but just because I'm subscribed to people. Interesting...
-
@marjoleink i doubt that anyone that's into OSS is afraid of changes, i mean that we'll get used to the new interface.
-
@eightyeight I'm no longer worried about missing themes. I'm only deeply worried about loss of basic functionality.
-
@eightyeight Aha, then !heybuddy is definitely shielding me from a lot of stuff. The context button still works here, but I do miss @ names.
-
Now for example I click the reply icon alongside "Ah, that's interesting!…" then click SEND
-
@marjoleink i hope that @evan and the teamlisten to what people is asking to get a better !identica and better status.net.
-
@azzorcist gua demen liat postingan lo bikin bule-bule pada berantem
-
@x1101 Yeah, I meant while replying - but I know it shows your "real name" on the web interface now. :)
-
@ghostdancer I'm not afraid of changes but I will definitely not get use to *this* interface: I just want the missing functionality back
-
@eightyeight not at all, I get a new page with a reply form, and the @-name prefilled :D I guess it's an advantage of using IE7 :p
-
♺ @evan: 1 thing we keep talking about with future upgrades is providing a separate interface for people to evaluate before general release
-
@marjoleink I see it as I *always* did: I click "in reply to" and see what you're replying to, just fine.
-
@jankusanagi the problem is at the website, not in clients that use the API (and haven't implemented *new* functionality either)
-
@marjoleink I didn't use old web interface, don't plan on using the new one. My world hasn't changed that much. Desktop clients rock :D
Hugh Barnes likes this. -
There are many clients, but don't under estimate official web client. Most new users will get first impression on it.
Marjolein Katsma and Hugh Barnes like this. -
@jankusanagi There are many clients, but don't under estimate official web client. Most new users will get first impression on it.
-
@adhisimon new users won't be missing old behaviour, right? :D -- Anyway, I don't understimate it, I just don't like "webapps", & avoid them
-
@adhisimon yeah but you shouldn't underestimate IdentiCurse either because it will eat your brains!
-
For me it's the software freedom, the live stream and the threadedness. Oh, and the good API.
Evan Prodromou likes this. -
@jankusanagi what do you mean? existing users can just go to hell? breaking functionality is just bad practice
-
@marjoleink HE said "first things NEW users see is web interface", hence my comment. And existing users should know about clients.
-
Good News! Now if it were only December 2011.
-
I'm having a hard time following this thread in flat mode. Nice if /conversation displayed threaded, then both available.
-
@mlinksva join the _very_ long list of users who are in your shoes. also, the web interface needs to bring @-replies back
-
+1 ♻ @eightyeight @mlinksva join the _very_ long list of users who are in your shoes. also, the web interface needs to bring @-replies back
Marjolein Katsma likes this. -
This !identica threaded view is only good for the web interface. !pidgin and !android users have several problems
Marjolein Katsma and Heikki Lappalainen like this. -
@eightyeight not only @-replies, but convo tree view
-
Thought I'd mention that I also prefer chronological order in my timeline. This tree-style convo view just seems wrong.
-
seems cute, but i'm not really understanding how the replys work or the group tags ._. Some weird arrow in front of the user name :x wtf
