I'm pretty happy with !Ubuntu, but if anyone can convince me why !Linux Mint !Debian Edition is better, I am willing to give it a try. !lmde
-
Linux Mint in general is a great alternative to Ubuntu and Unity if you're not all for Unity as a DE.
-
@ddhuy if you care about it being a community distro then it's definitely worthwhile,if you like unity & are happy with canonical then stay
-
I've never liked gnome and KDE, so I think unity and gnome3 r a lot worse, that's why I use Bodhilinux with enlightenment
-
it’s in the name. “linux mint >>debian<< edition”. go go go, ditch ubuntu =P

I got to tell you, I wish I could try one of those distros. But I have had no luck at all. I downloaded #Ututo, #VirtualBox can not read it
-
Yay Cold Coffee! -.-'
-
!virtualbox for the win
-
Sounds like a problem with VirtualBox, right? Perhaps a bad download? Verify MD5 checksum. It's just an .iso after all.
-
Also, !Trisquel has a new release: version 5.0.
-
Debian is free but is not there... that list is biased
-
The reason the FSF doesn't endorse Debian is discussed here: http://www.gnu.org/distros/common-distros.html
-
@darkestkhan I got bullied at libreplanet for saying i used debian, though it's 100% free. They said the non-free repo should be erased.
-
my system from non-free/contrib has only flash (thinking about nuking it) and unrar; no gnu doc on my system
-
@mvdan Those bullying are misguided, IMO, since it’s possible to use Debian without loss of freedom if you are careful and know the issues.
-
Rolling release is neat in !lmde
-
If Unity does not cut it for you, Linux Mint Katya would be a good alternative
-
@faither ultimate suckage =D
-
I'm writing this from Ututo within VirtualBox...
-
@ddhuy download a livecd/livedvd and try it out. The only person that can convince you from one option or another is yourself.

From a pure utilitarian perspective I found Debian much more stable / lighter weight / faster booting than Ubuntu. Tho I switched ~ 8.04 .
-
From a philosophical perspective I prefer distros which allow me to respect my freedoms. Whether they are !debian or !fsf approved distros.

@claudiom yes?

That was more in response to @faither. Not sure why the Linux group was included with that. #Newdentica feature I guess... :-/

I've used every Ubuntu you can think of throughout the past 3 years or so, never quite satisfied. But I ventured out and LMDE is for me.
