I heard once that Sun Microsystems banned PowerPoint and productivity went up 11%. I could be remembering it wrong, though.

Presentation software has it's place. At my last job, people often sent stuff in Powerpoint that should have been a Word document, though

@gomerx that's annoying but I also hate it when people send stuff in a word document that could just be put in an email.

There's an option in Microsoft Word to File->Send as->E-mail, I believe. Some people never use an E-mail client and do it all in Word.

Write with Word, read with Outlook or Internet Explorer. These are people who don't know what 'right-click' means, though.
