They are showing #Dune on BBC America. It's a bit weird to see Kyle #MacLachlan & Dean Stockwell so young. Patrick #Stewart looks same to me

@bkuhn thanks for the tip
-
@bkuhn patrick stewart and sean connery are in magical time bubbles
-
I'd forgotten how much it annoys me that #Gurney doesn't sing songs in the #Dune movie. Kinda like Tom Bombadil missing from #LOTR.

@bkuhn the modern movie takes on scifi are really sad. this could be great just updated w/ new special fx, but that'd never sell :/
-
@fontana, I have this vague memory we debated this heavily once years ago. Am I misremembering? The film is an interesting adaptation IMO.
-
http://ur1.ca/6rivi but I think we debated it IRL before that;My opinion's more complicated than I mention in that thread
-
@bkuhn special effects bad enough to keep me from understanding what's going on, mind filling me in?
-
@tekk, you definitely need to read the book. The film is, plot-wise, a poorly constructed Cliff's Notes version of the novel.
-
@bkuhn I have the novel in my room, sadly haven't finished yet(LoTR gets in the way)
-
@bkuhn and of course w/ upcoming gravmass I'll likely have plenty of extra scifi to get in the way after that :/
-
What's really !disturbing is that you are the only person to ever use the hastag #Bombadil on identica.

@tekk The book DUNE is well worth a read, very well developed. The film was visually interesting but stripped out most …
-
@parlementum ah, think I should bump it up my list then?
-
@parlementum (among hopeful acquirements are 1984, cosmos by sagan, farenheit 451...)
-
@fontana, Well, you're merely observing the hashtag uncertainty principle. I clearly changed the outcome of the experiment by observing it.
-
I'm impressed at Ebert's original review of #Dune: http://ur1.ca/6rjls
-
@tekk that's a tough list to rank, they are all worth the read :)
-
@tekk Although I prefer The Dragons of Eden by Sagan to Cosmos
-
@bkuhn wait...1984? that decreases quality of film by far
-
@bkuhn I thought this was late 60s/70s
-
@parlementum you see my dilemma then ;)
-
@parlementum so many things to get from him :) (contact will probably be after cosmos, may be misremembering title)
-
@tekk the titles are correct
-
Lynch's Dune is great IMHO. Reminds me that I should rewatch it, has been many years. Best & most creative Dune adaptation I've seen.
-
@sazius I hated Lynch's Dune. And I still can't erase the image of Sting's metal underpants from my mind
-
@expatpaul I know most people hate it. I might have a somewhat esoteric movie taste :)
-
@sazius Esoteric may be an understatement there ;-)
-
@expatpaul I've loved all Lynch movies that I have seen thus far :)
-
@sazius I've loved all the Lynch movies I've seen... Except Dune
-
@sazius That said, I think my main objection to the film stems from the fact that I loved the book so much
-
@fontana I think every great director releases one duff film over the course of his career. Dune was David Lynch's
-
I mean there were some things where I'd disagree, but honest people can disagree sometimes. ...
-
... however I am a lot into #Campbell’s Hero Journey (http://is.gd/wmJ1Im; which Tolkien was as well) and they just left its final part out!
-
Ever seen the Scifi remakes of #Dune as a miniseries?
