    Ah, watching the sunset. I wish that I could destroy all the bugs so that I could actually be OUTSIDE watching the sunset.

      @tedgould Also, I'm not sure what happens if your 'real name' is fairly long... like "A Pimp Named Slickback" for example.

      @dobey We switched to username for Karmic for that very reason. We really want "First Name" but that doesn't seem to be stored anywhere.

      @tedgould Classic name parsing problem. Only solution is to not do it. :)

      @dobey For sure. The i18n issues alone are a PITA. We need to start asking "What do you want to be called?" to the user somewhere.

      @tedgould We already do that, in a million different places. What we should probably not be doing, is having software that 'talks' to them.

      @dobey Hmm, I'm not aware of one. People like hearing their name and like being called by their name. It makes them feel loved.

      @tedgould The installer. And all the other places where one has to configure identity information (IM, e-mail, browsers, other clients).

      @dobey Installer, no. Evolution, no. They all ask for "Full Name" nothing about what you want to be called. Useless info in this context.

      @tedgould Generally username == nickname. Which is what people probably 'want to be called.' But I don't want my computer to call me. :)

      @dobey Yes, except on corporate networks where username equals random number from IT. Seems to be changing, but IT still does that to users

      @tedgould They also lock down your system so that you can barely do anything on the PC. But I still don't want my PC talking to me. :)

      @dobey Is there some issue you have with friendly computers? When they take over, you'll appreciate having a little bit of politeness.

      @tedgould @dobey prefers cold, tiny and mean!

      @tedgould "I'm sorry Dave. I can't do that Dave." <- I don't think the politeness goes very far...

      @stickwithjosh I prefer interacting with people. Electrons are a means of facilitating that communication. Not for replacing it.

      @dobey Maybe you missed the point of the movie. It was heroic how he overcame politeness to try and save that ship. Simply heroic.

      @tedgould I overcome politeness every day. :)
