@marjoleink I think there already are many of those. Seen them on sites.
-
Afraid not :/
-
@rajitsingh @tekk do you know of a live example (URL)? what @eebrah mentioned doesn't seem to be out in the wild
-
Not used Twitter's button, not sure how sophisticated it is. FSF has a "Share w/ social networks" for Identica http://identi.ca/url/60662818

@marjoleink Check this blog post. There's an identica share button at the bottom. http://t.co/KhD5IlP5
-
Also, who uses social share buttons? IMHO, most just slow site loading & take up space. Sharing features belong in the browser
-
@rajitsingh I like the look of that one, thanks - probably part of a WP plugin, but I could steal some of it :)
-
@samatjain thanks, but that's a horrible implementation...
-
@samatjain also, never mind 'belongs in the browser' - that's a nice theory (I agree) but people are used to buttons now and they work
-
@samatjain *people who are browsing* use social share buttons. :) they work, (some) people use them. that's what I need.
-
@samatjain I hate the "Nascar look" with too many share buttons, but one or two does not bother me.
-
There is one made by @jacobwb, check: http://www.tildehash.com/?article=new-identica-share-button
-
The choice of where to share should be a client decision not a service decision.
-
This is true, but browser makers need to do this. Don't expect users to install sharing add-ons.
-
Hopefully Web Intents will solve the Nascar-problem eventually
-
@lnxwalt yes, but how are browser makers going to keep up with all the social sites? there should some dynamic mechanism...
-
@marjoleink @Inxwalt: Check http://webintents.org/ - both Chrome and Firefox is working on solving it and they both have similar ideas

@marjoleink like search plugins?
-
@dhraak like OpenSearch you mean? maybe, could sites advertize themselves and their posting API to browsers somehow?
-
And it's not in the interest of the big players. But it starts with a specification.
-
@aqeeliz that's what I looked at - but could not find any live examples in spite of a list of sites...
-
@voxpelli that is indeed interesting! hope something like that will eventually come into being :) for now... kluge on :(
-
@zoowar "You want to show up in the browser and not be adblocked? Use the spec!"? #GoodIdeaBadIdea
-
I thought Addthis offered that? Don't they offer some embed code. It's ages since I used it though

Mozilla has !Firefox Share, into which service providers can be plugged in (a bit too nascent, unfortunately) http://identi.ca/url/56387498
-
Ideal goal is that sharing sites make available plugins/apps/whatever available by Mozilla's app store. Users install for what they use
-
If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the… I am sick of badly-implemented widgets/buttons slowing the Web down, personally
-
Sadly, the path of least resistance often wins the day.
-
@silner that‘s indeed another option, but the whole list can be overwhelming for people; must look at how configurable it is
-
@samatjain well, yeah, but what‘s your answer: don‘t share? I just need something that‘s easy to use (for end users) and not too ugly
-
Share old way for now (switch to tab or app). Personally, I block those stupid widgets w/ ABP & Antisocial blocklist http://adversity.uk.to/
-
The counter doesn't seem to be working for that button, I would've to check the code, but it is possible that new StatusNet design broke it.
-
@aqeeliz if I understood the description correctly, the counter depends on the search function - which was broken long before SN 1.0
-
@marjoleink I guess that means we should fix the StatusNet search then. :)
