I used !Fedora completely free, for nearly 4 weeks, but now I've succumbed to RPM Fusion (I needed !VLC and some audio codecs)
-
@silner is rpmfusion-free not considered free? #uninformed
-
@grdryn: questionably legal (in the US) freesoftware in it IIRC
-
@grdryn No - afaik rpmfusion-free is all free - but I installed free and non free - I needed non-free codecs for ffmpeg, cc @vvillenave
-
@grdryn To be honest I probably could have grabbed the few things I needed from non-free without permamently enabling it, but I was lazy
-
Thanks @threethirty and @fontana. Coincidentally I installed libre kernel this weekend and removed all nonfree packages/repos (afaik) :D
-
@vvillenave I see what you mean now. I'm not sure on that score. I need to recode some aac files into mp3 and ogg
-
.. to paste :)
-
@vvillenave I'm not sure whether that would have needed non-free but I was in a hurry and the command to install both is just as easy ..
-
@silner Well, we all need to convert files into proprietary formats sometimes, thus we're bound to need patent-encumbered sw :-) Good luck!
