it's just me or does anyone else think that tabs in #okular would be a cool new feature? !kde

@chicao I think so too, now you mention it

I think #okular needs smooth graphics display in pdf and debugged presentation mode forward/back more than tabs

@sredna What have Act/VD to do with the option to keep related docs in the same window? (KWin tabbing isn't necessarily more comfortable)

@chicao: What would you like to make them do?

@sredna sure it is.but if 1 needs to get lots (and i mean LOTS) of docs open? in this case i think tabs would be cleaner and more intuitive.

@chicao What about tabbed windows that KWin is offering? Maybe you could use them. I think you can even make a rule to auto-group Okular

@ralesk @sredna kwin tabbing keeps things visually organized but dont have the same fluence like built in tabs (at least not for me yet :)

@chicao: In that case I dedicate a virtual desktop to it and use window tabbing. Then you can actually search through them using #KWin.

@sredna True, I still don't like windows floating around, just how I don't keep N+3 browser windows open inside an Activity.

@hook i think that would give a more fluent and fast transition between open documents. its more intuitive than keep lots of windows open.

@sredna Aye, that's how I use them (or VDs, doesn't matter much to me), I have a dedicated Work "space" and some non-work ones.

@chicao Thumbnail previews when switching between tabs will be necessary if its gonna be as convenient as seperate windows.

@jrepin Its a great feature, but I personally never found swtiching between tabbed window groups to be comfortable.

@chicao: It's probably a matter of how you're used to it. Personally I wouldn't want to use tabs in #Okular, as it takes away desktop space.

@sredna i use like that too. but for a long period of working and opening various docs it becomes a mess.after that i have to take a time...

@sredna I think @chicao has a point. When multiple docs are open, alt+tab also shows other windows which kills the switching flow.

@sredna Same, still I prefer there to be less of certain types of windows. Eg. I tab browsers and terminals heavily, also pidgin chats.

@rajitsingh you can set shortcuts to only switch between tabbed windows of one group

@sredna True, but then not everyone prefers to use activities.

    • Rajit Vikram Singh Rajit Vikram Singh KDE

@sredna And IMHO its not always feasible. I usually work with a lot of windows. Opera, Kmail, etc. I open pdfs directly through them.

@sredna In such a case switching to a different activity to open okular would juat break the flow.

@rajitsingh @sredna VD/activities IS a killing feature. but in the situation i metioned before i would rather use tabs than window switching

@chicao +1. When you have multiple docs open with a lot of other wins, alt+tab results in a search through all of em to find the doc I need.

So yes, tabs in Okular would make my life a wee bit simpler! :D

@cyberkiller That plus tabs would make it feature complete for a lot of users.

@rajitsingh you could enable grouping windows. That gives me tabs everywhere. Advanced window options, group similar windows automatically.

@chicao you can already have "tabbed okulars" (or "tabbed any-program" thanks to Kwin, no need for tab support in every program

    • ralesk ralesk KDE , JanKusanagi

@jankusanagi KWin tabs feel awkward, the windows still occupy Alt-Tab space, can't Ctrl-Tab/{,} to switch between them IIRC, and so on.
