I'm curious also :) - I know of quite a few internet scale usages for XMPP using Tigase, Isode's M-Link and even ejabberd

@clacke I can't maintain more than 100 connections reliably with XMPP

@bear I've tried ejabberd, openfire, prosody and others. All start dying as soon as I want to scale out past 100. I don't know how others do

@zash I don't have a problem with netsplits on personal IRC servers. Only on federated, large, multithousand connections, like Freenode

I could imagine that maintaining the state necessary for running an XML stream makes it impossible for XMPP to scale as well as e.g. IRC.

@lnxwalt Heh. No. That device is highly unreliable. It clearly demonstrates that XMPP cannot scale.
