@pelletiermaxime Wow, looks like gentoo is giving you a hard time. I'm happy to have switched from Slack to Arch and not to gentoo...
-
@pelletiermaxime ... It must be a great learning experience, but I don't have enough free time to spend on that kind of thing anymore.
-
@jonathantellier well, nothing gentoo specific... you need a kernel w/e distro youre using
-
@jonathantellier i'm using gentoo because I don't have free time... been 9 months with maybe 1 hour maintenance since my initial install
-
@jonathantellier of course, gentoo take lots of hours to master, but slack and arch are exactly the same... just binary instead of source
-
@pelletiermaxime Yeah, I've heard that once gentoo is set up, it's rock solid. I find that to be true of Arch too btw...
-
@pelletiermaxime ..... but don't you find it time consuming to have to compile every single packages ?
-
@jonathantellier yeah, well, arch is the only other good disto imo because it's the only other that doesn't have shitty release schedule
-
@jonathantellier but compiling is so fast these days that I don't really see why anyone would use arch... but still a great choice =)
-
@pelletiermaxime How long does it take you to compile a big package, like, let's say, a full blown KDE ?
-
@jonathantellier depends what is a full blown KDE to you... kde-meta (+-200 packages) too me maybe 4 hours
