is it correct that !kde 's #kate is very inefficient opening files with a size of serveral hundred megabytes ?!
-
@qwc Aren't most programs?
-
@reality there are some which are quite efficient... well some...
-
@qwc That said, gVim can work, but you may be better off using command line tools IMO.
-
@qwc The problem ends up being that most editors (especially with syntax highlighting) try to load the entire file into ram.
-
@qwc emacs isn’t that bad, though not perfect. Ideal might be less (that’s what I use for huge files).
-
@unhammer cool! thanks! are you in the emacs group? these hints are much appreciated there http://ur1.ca/81ojs
-
@unhammer there's one small problem, i'm not very familiar with emacs, i use gui editors or vim
-
could be, yes. but at least notepad++ is great with a gigabyte file
-
most hex editors are designed to only work on the file on disc, such as wxhexeditor.
-
@andreasr right, notepad++ is the one that can handle such big files ... but there's no linux version... -.-
-
@qwc at least they made sure it works in wine. that's pretty good =p
-
@arnebab I am in the emacs group yes :) (sorry for the late answer, for some reason all my microblog messages last month were marked spam)
