Who the html-standard genius that allowed a drop-down menu that you have to OK to close a tab? Spammers love you.

@exador23 youve lost me there - what dropdown menu? what tab?
-
@marjoleink I keep getting websites that when you CMD+w to close the tab, a drop down appears "are you sure you want to navigate away?"
-
@marjoleink I'm guessing @exador23 is not actually talking about a drop down menu, but instead means a Macintosh "sheet."
-
@exador23 if I understand you correctly: nothing to do with HTML: the tabs are *browser* tabs, and the message is generated with JavaScript
-
@exador23 JavaScript can detect if youre closing a window. Try turning off JS and see if you still get that message
-
@exador23 Ive see that behavior only with annoying sites you get to after following an ad ;)
-
@marjoleink doesn't the identica form on the web use javascript?
-
@exador23 sure, JavaScript isnt evil, its how its used; turn it back on *after* closing the annoying tab!
-
@exador23 I said try turning it off so you can see that behavior is indeed generated with JavaScript
-
@exador23 @marjoleink: This is why I use NoScript
-
@exador23 I can't bear any more inductive troubleshooting. @marjoleink You never even asked what site, or what browser.
-
@marjoleink Every now & again, I'll get some pop-up that gets by my severe browser settings. usually hidden behind my main page...
-
@dwibby well I dont but I have the Web developer toolbar ;)
-
@exador23 So, ah, what site(s)? And still on Camino browser, right?
-
@josh yes camino & I'm trying to find it in my history to recreate. I'd closed it already.
-
@marjoleink. Javascript can be really cool/ usefull, but it as also a great source of spam. I think the same counts for flash....
-
@exador23 those are popunders - and you need a better popup blocker :)
-
@alfredwesterveld indeed… guess why I still havent installed Flash on my #macman ;)
