"Has Liz II Been Cheated Out of an Era?" http://www.ur1.ca/84dkb #royalty #humour #ElizabethII
about 4 months ago from web- Chris Lawrence repeated this.
-
The people of the world were cheated out of eras by monarchs for centuries. Good riddance to rubbish eras.
-
@douglasawh On one hand Americans have no appreciation for the monarchy; on the other treat performers as royalty, putting them under a lens
-
@laurelrusswurm A lot of us in Britain have no appreciation of the monarchy. Celebrity and monarchy appeal is a similar mechanism.
-
I like queens.
satipera likes this. -
Not more than other people, though.
-
@satipera true and both lifestyles afflicted with same problems (fishbowl), but royals have some preparation & support; celebrities less so
-
@gomerx I feel sorry for them, rather.
-
I don't feel sorry fo them. We all pay for the choices we make.
-
Celebs often do one thing better than others. Ppl tell them they’re wonderful and marvel that it messes up their heads.
-
@gomerx Royals are born into it; I doubt the married-ins really know what they are choosing. (Recall feeling sorry for Di on wedding)
-
@laurelrusswurm we "appreciated" the monarchy taxing our tea! I don't treat any performers like royalty...except maybe …
-
I think not demanding an era reflects the modern monarchy &,as first head of state to send email in '76,HRH is part of the "computer age"...
-
Also, are you secretly hoping for the same thing I'm secretly hoping for?;That "Mum" will have had enough of all this "corporate horseplay"?
-
@1111Aether since the last time Liz helped a PM stack the senate to circumvent !Canada's democracy, doubt help from that quarter ...
-
@1111aether Tho Liz has been at the helm a long time, not same as QE1 ... today's royals *are* PR ... mere entertainment #sad
-
That's kind of what I mean, the monarchy has moved into more of a figurehead role.
-
I remember breathing a sigh of relief when we were prorogued as bill C-47 was being pushed thorough and died on the order paper bc of it :)
-
@1111aether there's too much of that altogether; What we truly need is electoral reform ... our system of Adversarial Democracy is broken
-
yeah, I don't think that's happening anytime soon :(
-
@1111aether Electoral reform will only ever happen if we work for it. I suggest finding your local http://www.fairvote.ca/ chapter
