Do you plan any stops along the way? If so, where?
-
@zoowar arizona and new Mexico
-
Somebody need to write a 'vegan road trip' guide. I imagine finding food you can eat on the road is challenging.
-
@zoowar arizona and new Mexico
-
@zoowar Well I packed quite a bit and then I stopped tonight at a grocer to grab gluten-free bread and rice milk..
-
drive safe, @lstench
-
@laurelrusswurm will do going to eat and hit the sack-- tomorrow it's new mexico.
-
@lstench I think that's Joe Leaphorn Country (http://www.umsl.edu/~smueller/photo.htm) ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Corners
-
I hope you own a rice cooker, the greatest kitchen appliance in the universe.
-
@zoowar I do ;)
-
@laurelrusswurm first link 404
-
@lstench curious; link still works for me... it's photos of the geography of the area where Tony Hillerman's Leaphorn/Chee mysteries occur
-
@lstench I included the page b/c it showed this: http://www.ur1.ca/8r6i3 (which I would love to see some day, tho not enough to suffer TSA)
-
@laurelrusswurm beautiful, can't you drive?
-
@lstench as little as possible :) Seriously, it isn't just the TSA. I'm not brave enough to cross the border in current political climate
-
@laurelrusswurm what happened thought US/Canada had good relations.
-
@lstench Read about a Canadian writer's border trouble ~ got out of car & assaulted by Border guards http://www.ur1.ca/8r8k4 then CONVICTED
-
I'm a big fan of Dr Watts, I was following this. It was awful.
-
@dno Yes. And the most disturbing thing is that any civil rights we think we have are apparently suspended at the border. #notworthit
-
Life is a highway ... love that song, everytime I say that sentence, I feel like watching Pixar's Cars. :-)
-
@laurelrusswurm that is funny maybe it contained bugs.
-
@laurelrusswurm I think the worst thing in the Peter Watts case is the number of people who tried to claim Watts was at fault
-
@lstench @laurelrusswurm Commonly done to protect against spread of insects or diseases that might affect crops or timber.
-
@laurelrusswurm @lstench I do agree, however, that the extreme US reaction to 9-11 is such that I’d not recommend any non-USsian come here.
-
@mohanpram getting tired of driving sad that I can't be a passenger
-
@lstench yeah I bet, hang in there. If you get tired pull over and take a few minutes to rest
-
@expatpaul Agreed. Of course he did break the law. (Then again, the law is scary. )
-
@laurelrusswurm You mean by committing the crime of being punched in the face?
-
@lnxwalt really you think its that bad
-
@lnxwalt that's what I assumed
-
@mohanpram I know don't want to doze off
-
@lstench you should rest at those rest stops, they've gotten a lot better
-
@expatpaul Convicted for “failure to comply with a lawful command” questioning authority & not doing as he was told http://www.ur1.ca/8rb1d
-
@lnxwalt particularly non-USsians with big mouths :)
-
@expatpaul In hindsight, defense ought to have argued that he was dazed from having his head punched in which was why he was slow to comply
-
@laurelrusswurm I know and I was being a bit snarky. But the point remains - Americans should be up in arms that such a law exists
-
@laurelrusswurm If I remember rightly, there was prety much no way Watts' case could be defended
-
@laurelrusswurm Or non USsians with half a braincell ;-)
-
@expatpaul Agreed, yet the problem seems to be that our supposed democratic governments are non-responsive to citizen interests
-
@expatpaul there are a bunch of amazing American freedom fighters (eff, aclu, fsf, pk, but gov't isn't listening)
-
@expatpaul yeah, I got that impression ... newish law
-
@laurelrusswurm Maybe so, but what bothered me was the number of people making excuses for the border guard...
-
@laurelrusswurm People are too quick to respect authority, even when the respect is undeserved
-
@laurelrusswurm There are. I'm not sure the problem is the government so much as the people willing to accept whatever is imposed
-
@laurelrusswurm Yes. If I remember rightly, the law was implemented to control arms smuggling into Mexico #ScopeCreep
-
@expatpaul I'm pretty sure it's the system of government - there & here First Past The Post system leaves gov't beholden to the kingmakers
-
expatpaul The US 2party system proved itself a fallacy since both answer to corporations not citizens (why @lessig trying to fix system)
-
#notmesir ;)
-
@laurelrusswurm First past the post doesn't help, but people can be too quick to assume that authority is impeccable
-
@laurelrusswurm I would certainly agree that the US political system is dangerously stunted, for a whole host of reasons
-
@r7 Glad to hear it. The world needs more independent thinkers
-
Good luck!
-
@evan thank you.
