@r7 @mvdan @ghostdancer any observations or thoughts on the general strike you'd like to share?
about a year ago from mustard-
@mcnalu is this a new strike or an historic one?
-
@mcnalu ah, just saw the lead story on guardian.uk
-
In the city where i live is been pretty general during the morning but in the afternoon a lot of bars have opened, not the shops
-
@mcnalu it must be different in big cities, now i think there are problems in Madrid and Barcelona, and the media are with the government.
-
for example left one is a real one right one from the local version of FOXNews : http://identi.ca/url/68485069
-
Police beating the Press in Barcelona : http://identi.ca/url/68485102
-
@parlementum I was referring to the general strike in Spain. The (non) strike story in the UK is more about the muppetry of our Tory gov.
-
@ghostdancer thanks for sharing. so there is widespread support for the strike, despite attempts at media distortion?
-
@mcnalu i think so , but most of the media are right wing and will cover everything, they are announcing that strike will fail all the week
-
@ghostdancer here our right wing ministers are making fools of themselves over a fuel strike that may not even happen.
-
@mcnalu fool strike? that'd be funny
-
@thistleweb haha. I wish the ministers would go on strike, then we could all sit back and watch as the country improves.
-
@mcnalu here they are cutting so much the expenses that the country is going to freeze economically and heading for recesion
-
@mcnalu as the fools on the fools march get sucked into a reality loop "who is more the fool, the fool or the fool who follows" rofl
-
@thistleweb ha. I gave that same Kenobi quote last week with reference to Westminster following Holyrood on min alcohol pricing.
-
Because of a small group of cunts who decided to break into a bank, the police surrounded us and so I left. Disappointed.
-
Is there a collective noun for a group of cunts? You know, how like a group of crows is a murder?
-
If not, I propose "bag." Just because it's a ton of fun to say "bag of cunts." Try it!
speeddefrost and mcnalu like this. -
@mvdan I'm sorry to hear that. Anyone hurt?
-
@pete :D
-
@pete so sexist/mysogynistic words are OK, but retarded is not. Got it. (see: http://ur1.ca/8uutv )
-
If cunt is sexist, so is dick. If dick is sexist, I'm quickly running out of cuss words.
-
It is the American style of cursing to use words that relate to intercourse and body parts. Don't shit on fucking tradition :)
-
@pete I think etymology will teach us that most cuss words are hatred/violence based.
-
@pete maybe even all.
-
Although cunt in particular is definitely British. I wonder if that's a common style of cursing among English speaking people.
-
The French defame the iconography of the church, so I hear. Not that I speak French, but I seem to recall picking that up somewhere.
-
@pete it predates the USA - goes back to Chaucer at least.
-
Well then fuck that in its stupid ass. It's like we've never met or something :)
Greg Grossmeier likes this. -
Is it true that "Much ado about nothing" really means "much ado about pussy?" I heard that the other day.
-
@pete interesting. Either way; hatred is hatred and (rhetorical) violence is (rhetorical) violence. Actually, just take "rhetorical" out.
-
I don't buy that for a minute, no.
-
@pete see all scholarly discourse around the use of 'gay' and 'homo'. See all discourse for why women don't join FLOSS projects. See...
-
I think that line of reasoning may hold more weight with words that describe a person (bitch, retard, fag). But not (cunt, cock, ass).
-
How many curse words can I rack up on identi.ca today?
-
See the reply I just sent you.
-
@pete I can't verify it, but sounds quite plausible.
-
@pete See http://ur1.ca/8uuww Same reclamation reasoning as gay/queer and not disproving of its female hatred.
-
Well, they are free to use that word however they wish and believe whatever they wish about it.
-
Would you say that "You're a dick" is anti-male?
-
@pete lack of corresponding https://enwp.org/wiki/Dick is telling But yes I believe saying "you're a dick" invokes feelings of hate&violence
-
@pete lack of corresponding http://ur1.ca/8uuyk is telling But yes I believe saying "you're a dick" invokes feelings of hate&violence
-
@pete without the power of hate&violence those words lack efficacy in that context.
-
@pete meaning: they are bound by the hate&violence and is intrinsic to their use.
-
I disagree entirely.
-
You find this "telling?" Of what?
-
@pete fair if you don't, but I can't see how those words do not embody and convey their own history of hate&violence. #agreetodisagree
-
And I also disagree with that last sentence. I challenge you to find another person who would seriously posit that.
-
Yeah, I think we're gonna have to.
-
@pete telling of lack of viewpoint (see: http://goo.gl/K7GTY, not sure of cause in this specific situation).
-
@pete But why is one there and the other not? Both have an etymology and use in today's discourse.
-
Because people get bent out of shape over the word cunt, in a way that don't about the word dick. I think that's obvious.
-
@greg won't somebody please think of the poop?! Poop has feelings too you know!
-
Hahahah! Perhaps a handful of wags?
-
Only the ones looking for trouble do find it. Generally the ones throwing stuff at the police got arrested.
