@mbjunior where does that quote come from? It contradicts the AGPL…
-
@marktraceur thanks. So it’s simply pulled out of context. @rms explicitely excludes Software as a Service ur1.ca/9136l ur1.ca/913wn
-
Essentially, saying that while the *software* running the service might be free or not, you cannot copy the service itself. Complex stuff.
-
@marktraceur @mbjunior jepp. And the four freedoms make sense for the software that’s used for the service, but not for the service itself
-
@mbjunior if they don’t work without context, I think they should not be quoted, because that would distort what was said.

Has this become reddit ?
-
I need to re-read this; it's important, and I'm instinctually disappointed with it.
-
I was referring to your reply style, not the service you use. So the answer to your question is "no".
-
I think what's right is that "four freedoms" might not apply to network services, but saying "not an issue of free or non-free" seems wrong
-
There are *serious* user freedom issues that aren't necessarily free as in free software. ;)
-
@manu I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings.
-
@manu Can I keep my reddit style, sweetheart?
-
@evan That "cooking" analogy tastes a bit fallacious.
-
Avoid assuming. I neither praised nor insulted identica, you didn't hurt my feelings, I didn't ask you to change and I never loved you.

Also, for @rms, the four freedoms don't apply to cultural works, and especially not to works of opinion. Go figure.

I’m in agreement with @cwebber here. There might be more or fewer freedoms, or a diff conceptual basis, but user freedom issues remain.

@arnebab Absolutely not, man. I was just horsing around :-) but I really think that quote wasn't pulled out of context that much.
-
:) — I think it was pulled out of context, because it missed the part of not being about software as service.
-
@rms sometimes fumbles in his theories.
-
that’s what I meant, yes :) - though SaaS with AGPL is not…
-
@mbjunior we all do…
-
@carlopiana Lawyer detected :-)

I never read the AGPL entirely. Am gonna do it now. http://ur1.ca/94jzu
