Bad news if it's true ยป !GPL, copyleft use declining faster than ever | ITworld http://goo.gl/i73fz
about a year ago from web-
@lxoliva ... and needs a lot more work http://upsilon.cc/~zack/blog/posts/2012/02/gpl_d_debian_software_skew/ ...
-
@lxoliva ... of course it is a far better start than non-public data, but as "scientific and transparent" cries out for replication&critique
-
Yeah, I'm fairly confident the debian data doesn't take into account the largest growing area of FOSS dev: web stuff

Or, "not even nearly comprehensively"
-
@mlinksva But you'd expect BD to have an incentive to show increase in copyleft.
-
@fontana I trust them to optimize their good/bad news mix to loosen customer $.
-
@fontana tangentially "Here's the deal on Openness" http://www.blackducksoftware.com/rookies/ ... #ostatus clears minor hype hurdle?
-
@mlinksva methodology, code and raw data are all available, so it's scientific, unlike Black Duck's FUD
-
@fontana it depends on how much they're paid to show the opposite, no?
-
It's just the people who were using GPL as a dual-license FUD weapon now using Apache as a group hug. Pay no attention.

@webmink That's an interesting/curious way to describe that situation.

It's just a racy paraphrase of @sogrady http://ur1.ca/92mi3
-
As far as the world of Free software advocacy is concerned, it's an adjustment back to normalcy for GPL usage.
-
@lxoliva maybe
-
@loliva did I say it wasn't? I was arguing with "that shows the opposite". now that's a non-scientific statement without much qualification!
-
@mlinksva I hate to say it but it is annoying that they included #OpenShift. However, see e.g. http://ur1.ca/8tqd6
