I've used WP for years. Never really got it to do what I want. It's easier than hacking custom HTML, though.

@gomerx all I’m trying to do is come up with a simple way to post stuff from my nook, which has a WP app, but little else of use.

Perl is excellent for that stuff. I used to have scripts to generate HTML for me.

Well I posted a pic from my nook to my WP blog, so this may work ok.

@parlementum Apparently, WP only needs FTP if your webserver cannot write to /wp-content directly.

@gomerx yeah except the About Me page formats links etc with html in the edit phase but they don’t show on the live page.

@chimo yeah or I will just upload the plugins I want myself to the server, don’t really like the idea of WP doing whatever it wants.

I usually end up entering my posts as straight HTML. It's the only way I can get the layout the way I want.
