Me too. Unfortunately since nobody is using GPG, or understands it, I end up almost never using it.
-
Heh, Goog "drive" owns everything you upload. Resistance is futile.
-
@nybill just encrypt everything before egress, problem solved!
-
@x1101 Just ignore the Goog takeover, problem solved. I'm telling you man, this is AOL 2.0.
-
@johnnynull which one? Ignore then, or encrypt everything?
-
@nybill have you ever applied for a job at the Google?
-
@moggers87 They wouldn't want me. :P
-
@johnnynull on my netbook (most portable PC) I have whole drive encryption, and a few directory level encrypts as well!
-
@johnnynull 98% of the people won't even read the terms, much less know about encryption. @x1101
-
@nybill I think you're being generous. I would say more like 99.95%
-
@x1101 Damn, there aren't even 2% of us geeks in the know...
-
@nybill no, I just mean that geeks dont make up 2% of the gen pop
-
@nybill oops, that wasn't meant for you ;)
-
@johnnynull decrypt
-
Yeah, I talked yesterday with another programmer & geek and he hadn't even thought about the encryption issue. cc: @x1101
-
@johnnynull and you saw that I am trying to get into the habit of doing gpg with my email
-
@sazius I just finished Doctrow's 'Little Brother' and am reading 'Cryptonomicon' so crypto is heavy on my brain!
-
@sazius With this CISPA stuff, I'm thinking its time for all encryption, all the time. Darknets and tunnels. (and I do nothing wrong online!
-
@x1101 Yea, last email I got from you mentioned gpg. But, the body of the email was plain text. I need to look into this more.
-
@nybill yeah, unless you have my key, and I have yours, all you get is gpg signed email. If your interested in playing with it, lemme know.
-
@johnnynull yeah, we let you in, didn't we!
-
@johnnynull This is along the lines of my AOL 2.0 statement. These people just find computers neat/cool/hip. Not our people.
-
I do not prefer keys be exchanged automatically - I *want* to manually verify the keys.
-
@johnnynull Anyone can have 'the title'. But, we know...
-
@benanov yes, and? I never implied that I was auto exchanging keys.
-
@johnnynull just means that I need to keep reading things that keep me paranoid.
-
@johnnynull I gotta do something to earn my place in the !rightbastards
-
Doctorow is awesome. But yeah, both my laptops have full disk encryption as well and my offsite backup on shared server is encrypted too :-)
-
I agree, but OTOH we shouldn't "give up" on the masses. We need to be out there educating them.
-
I've got gpg setup as well. Unfortunately I don't know anyone who uses it so I'm actively signing mails since that'll j…
-
@sazius Was it you who recommended 'Cryptonomicon'?
-
@sazius well, now you know one person who uses it! I have enigmail setup in Tbird to auto sign mails from most of my accts (with one key)
-
I don't think so. Although, I have read it (many years ago) and remember liking it.
-
Yay! Now I just need something to mail you about :-)
-
@sazius I am enjoying it, but its not at all what I expected for being a 'classic cyber punk novel'
-
Same here. I’m alone with my encryption ;)
If you like, I’d be happy to join the test circle. -
As they say, no man is a gpg island :-)
