     @laineyg it was a Lamb Madras I had, but Madras is towards the milder end of the curries I like

     I'm not sure I can go higher than a Madras... we don't even have a 'straight' madras... I use tomato puree in it! :o)

     @kevie the other yardstick would be "if it doesn't bring a tear to your eye both on the way in and out, it's not hot enough" ;)
