    I'm glad libraries are moving toward ebook ownership, but odd to see @BoingBoing promoting DRM. http://prkr.ph/16c (@robmyers agrees.)

      @xor I'd modify sentiment slightly: moving toward ownership incompatible with promoting DRM.

      @xor and "Freegal Music", non-DRM but shifty http://librarianinblack.net/librarianinblack/2011/04/just-say-no-to-freegal.html

      @mlinksva threading a needle here, but I don't think they're wholly incompatible. But if pubs insist on DRM, then it's not ownership.

      @mlinksva As in: publishers (probably) own their ebooks, and they only distribute with DRM. Libraries shouldn't do the same.

      Yeah, I don't think paying DRM vendors licensing fees is a net win here.

      @xor I see that the library "owns" the copy but must apply DRM before delivering to patrons. I suppose that could be seen as moving needle.

      @john extremely well put.

      @mlinksva if they "must", it's not ownership. I don't think libraries would do this voluntarily, but I think there isn't enough data.

      Just saw this too, very clear blow against libraries from Amazon, on the basis of libraries being deliberately hamstrun…
