Eben Moglen: Why Freedom of Thought Requires Free Media and Why Free Media Require Free Technology http://is.gd/KFVVx7 (sorry, Youtube)
about a year ago from Choqok- Jure Repinc (JLP), Kipngetich Ibrahim Ngeno, Dennis Zeit and kidsbooks like this.

My std answer re Why I'm fighting for #FaiF: "Because when Orwell happens to my kids, I want a better appology then 'liking was convenient'"
Jure Repinc (JLP) and Arne Babenhauserheide like this. -
At the very least I want to be able to look my kids into the eyes and say "I'm really sorry, we tried our best, but we still failed."
Jure Repinc (JLP) and Arne Babenhauserheide like this. -
same for me… and I now actually have kids to fight for. It’s also the reason why I contribute to !freenet.
-
Similar feelings re: future generations, though I don't presently intend to have children :)
-
@lxoliva: The full statement is a bit more colourful, but sadly too big to fit into 140 chars :P

I haven't tried this, but consider http://ur1.ca/8c4mj

I see google as the least evil of the surveillance sites.
-
@1111aether not everyone can know everything, that's not dumb, it's just something ya didn't know before & now ya do
-
#freenet does quite well: 4 GSoC projects this year (including transport plugins == steganography!) and it’s getting better step by step.
-
#freenet is the one which is focussed on #censorship resistance. Everything it offers originates there - including darknet, pseudonyms, …
-
interestingly google sponsors freenet even though it makes it possible to step out of googles view. Possibly remaining hacker-idealism…
-
…or just the pragmatic view that this helps strengthening googles image as the good guy. As long as that helps freenet, I won’t complain…
-
@1111aether: Neat, thanks :)
-
@arnebab: Moo. As long as it works for now, we just have to make sure we're not dependent on them.
-
:) see http://freenetproject.org —interesting content: WebofTrust, Sone, update-notification for bookmarks and http://draketo.de/node/480
-
@arnebab: Thanks, will do :)
-
some of the core devs run it on a small home-server - the WebOfTrust might bring that to its limits, though.
-
I would not advise running it on a laptop, though. Better uptime yields higher performance (optimizing routing and connections)
-
@arnebab: Cool. So I've found yet another usage for my lil' #DreamPlug !PlugComputer :)
-
:) Glad to see you on board! Besides: !Freenet already proved itself to scale very well - even when the usercount rose by 25% in a week.

@hook openjdk crypto is still quite slow on arm, though :(
