#Shuttleworth kissing Bill Gates as.sterisk. What good is !GNU/ !Linux resiliency if it'll run on Windows #Azure #cloud? http://ur1.ca/9gq4x
-
@metztli I'm not sure I get your point. how is Azure supporting non-Windows client OSes a bad thing?
-
@metztli Azure will run any distro, and imho no harm is done by creating disk images that target it.
-
Hummm... @wgreenhouse: "I'm not sure I get your point". Could it be because you did not read the second sentence of my comment?
-
However, by all means @wgreenhouse, run your !Ubuntu in #Azure! After all, #Microsoft has "embraced" !Linux ... & its reaching for its neck!
-
@metztli there are a lot of non-free VM solutions out there, e.g. VMware. I wouldn't say Azure is inherently less reliable than those.
-
Tell me @wgreenhouse, do you think that #Microsoft was "unaware" of #Stuxnet #Duqu #Flame?…that it didn't collaborate with States involved?
-
@metztli no, of course I wouldn't. Nor would I trust other non-free VM hypervisors such as VMware.
-
@metztli yes, I do. no point in mentioning such plans to microsoft when .us/.il/whoever could easily buy vulns on the open market w/o MS.
-
@metztli a result of MS's closed security model is that there are companies such as VUPEN specializing in unreleased Windows 0days.
-
@metztli ...sold only to "friendly" (NATO) governments. informing MS about these before use would be unnecessary and counterproductive.
-
@metztli to reiterate, of course Azure+Ubuntu is less reliable than Ubuntu running in a FOSS VM, but it's also better than Azure+Windows.
-
@metztli it was undetected by the software security industry too; I think there was much complacency about a MITM against Windows Update.
-
@metztli I don't disagree. there's just no plausible evidence for the collaboration theory, at all.
-
@metztli kaspersky report also indicated it wasn't anything like the whole Middle East, but about a hundred selected boxes at a time.
-
Problem is #Flame erases its tracks, making it difficult for 3rd parties to realize extent of infection —initial rumor was whole Middle East

@wgreenhouse I mistrust Windows in general. I cannot fathom why you would ever use it for anything important requiring …

@toksyuryel My windows had a major Kernel error. I couldnt fix, had to reinstall it. Thankfully I gots 3 HDD's ^_^
-
@metztli right. more recent hypothesis is that there was a fairly constant small number of hosts, adding new ones as others were deleted.
-
@toksyuryel I wouldn't. but I also can't fathom why anyone would use a non-free VM host in general, be it VMware or Azure.
-
@metztli no question that MS and US share an interest in MS having profitable exports. but that interest is hurt by every botnet scandal.

@toksyuryel I certainly can't understand why the Iranian oil ministry used it for critical production work-maybe they will use Linux now.

@toksyuryel I would send you a song to listen to, but you'll be spending the next while dowloading codecs for a .mp3 xD kidding :P

@renovatedkitchen I can listen to mp3s just fine :P

@toksyuryel After or before downloading codecs ^_^. Linux is awesome though. Each OS has its pro's and cons

@toksyuryel lol. Thats awesome. All I ever use is iTunes. MP3's and ALAC files is good enough. FLAC support would be nice though.

@renovatedkitchen Whenever possible I prefer ogg and flac, but I have support for just about everything ☺ my primary …
-
@toksyuryel THats awesome. But, ALAC is still uncompressed, just takes less space. Which is nice :3
-
@renovatedkitchen ALAC is compressed, that's why it takes less space. But it's lossless compression, which means quality is not degraded.
-
@toksyuryel Sorry, thats what I meant. I should sleep some. lol. Every OS has its ups and downs though

@renovatedkitchen Certainly, but the few ups of Windows and Mac aren't really compelling enough compared to their numer…
