If I wanted to allow an OS to REMOVE anything from my computer, I'd still be using #Windows. I am unimaginably disappointed in !Trisquel

@parlementum I kind of like being able to blog. And that driver is how my formerly !Trisquel box connects to the !identiverse :(

@mvdan @laurelrusswurm I'd call this Forcibly Free Software. :-o It's OK to install only FS, but not to remove what the user has installed.

@hgfernan Not really. Package managers do remove software that the distro no longer supports - this is normal and reasonable

@expatpaul Agreed if it's based on incompatible software versions. Not agreed if it's based on license incompatibility only.

@hgfernan Not really. If the distro no longer supports a package, you would expect the package manager to remove/replace it...

@expatpaul In case of license incompatibility only the removed package can be reinstalled. @laurelrusswurm had it in a previous !Trisquel.

@laurelrusswurm The BCM4306 you reference in other dent is supported by free software due to OpenFWWF project - No proprietary stuff needed.

@expatpaul annoyed yes, but not accusing them of things. Do --pretend or equivalent, it will tell you what it's going to do.

@laurelrusswurm It seems wireless support for !Linux is excellent nowadays. They have it right in the kernel. It is mac80211, cfg80211 etc.

@expatpaul Same here for RT2870/3070 in a 2.6.x kernel. It's all fine in a 3.2x kernel. Boy the version numbers are rolling too fast ! :)

@mvdan Be free is not built for that tweet, i don't think i need to use arch but my printer only works with deb or rpm distros

@hgfernan The computer distro "stable" means it will stay mostly the same for a period, not that it works properly.

Decent printer drivers are actually rather scarce.

I’ve not had any issues with my hp printer. Maybe I just got lucky…

HP's are the only ones that ever worked from what I've seen.

Yes. However, you do realize that most of those are proprietary blobs that -- because it uses Linux-libre -- Trisquel removes, right?

I uses free as in freedom software with free hardware and work like a charm. No complications.

We're talking about Trisquel. Is it for non-techies? No. It's for people (like me), who actually want to and do make source code changes.

Any proprietary software is poison to that kind of user. I'd actually like a proper VRMS running and removing non-free software at all times

@jacobwb An important point is to actually confirm proprieatary are removed by the installer. I'm gonna install Trisquel to try that. Peace.
