well, phone warranty's up anyway. what could possibly go wrong? gonna try cyanogen!
-
Good luck, I had "fun" with #cyanogenmod awhile back >.> Lots of fiddly settings to get used to, sorta like #KDE, but no crapware
-
@jewelfox loving it so far. i was on froyo rooted stock before. so much faster now!
-
Woot, congrats. I'm actually using a phone that has a simplified version of #cyanogenmod as stock right now
-
hmm, sounds attractive. Using a T-Mobile G2 running 2.3.4. Been contemplating further exploration but I lack the expertise. Which way?
-
@onyetwo it's totally worth doing cyanogen, it made my phone run so much faster and cleared a lot of wasted internal memory!
-
I would try #cyanogen again if only its community wasn't so toxic.
-
define toxic. Where do I start. I dread bricking my device. I love it
-
One example: cyanogen community is oddly proud of its incredibly hostile and juvenile support channels
-
if only Google was not hostile to community contribution and actually listened to feedback...
-
For most !Android devices, unless you're messing w/ the bootloader or RIL, it's difficult to brick your device (I've a G2)
-
Great. Perhaps U can share a HOW-TO that is specific to the device (one that uses Linux preferably). I want freedom with this baby
-
For the G2, all you really need is the Android SDK. Cyanogenmod wiki has good instructions http://identi.ca/url/72649259
-
@jamesvasile oh absolutely. but there are normal people out there who are supportive and helpful :)
-
@samatjain True. All my phones have been through some pretty bad flashes, but I always managed to recover.
-
agree. My SGS1 ran much much faster on CM7. Target to flash CM9 soon.
-
Now enjoying CyanogenMod 7 on G2. In comparison, stock sucks! Now that the device is rooted, are there security issues to be aware of?
