"Nobody will get hired from using C++/Qt. The world is C# and Objective-C. Why waste time on !KDE?" Opinions? And I'm not trolling you all.

Same thing, though I don't know to what extent, applies to Gnome/GTK as well, I suppose.
-
@rajitsingh Oh, well, i got hired because i'm a C++/Qt dev :) So, well, take from that what you will :)

@rajitsingh Likewise, I was hired because I am a c++/Qt/KDE developer. There are jobs out there.
-
@rajitsingh I've seen local job postings for embedded Qt programmers and I live in Iowa, USA (not exactly the technological hub of the US)
-
Another major factor worth considering is the advent of Android and iOS. There's money to be made there and people know it.
-
With that in mind, would community projects still be as attractive to young, aspiring developers looking to get their feet wet?
-
Of course, I'm aware of all that is to be gained by contributing to community projects, but is that enough to lure new contributors anymore?
-
@rajitsingh I don't think you even know what you are talking about. Can you please stop spamming the kde group with your nonsense?
-
FYI that was a reaction to Peter Penz quitting KDE developement. Just trying to discuss why there's such a dearth of contributors.
-
@rajitsingh then discuss that on a developer forum, not a users' one.
-
This is something that will affect the users as well. I don't see a reason why it shouldn't be discussed with them. On topic, please.
-
@rajitsingh C++ and Qt have way more potential and interest than some people want you to believe. There's Qt for Android, btw
-
@rajitsingh wrong premise, groundless conclusion
-
I got hired because of C++/Qt :P the world is migrating to Qt :))

And FYI, I got hired as a C++/Qt dev, right after graduation, in a company who never hired any fresh graduate! ;)

Most game development is done in C++. Also most systems programming. You may want to rethink that statement.
-
It was not my statement. But it is nice to know that there are opportunities. I think that KDE (Qt) should publicize your testimomials.
-
People need to know that if you're contributing to KDE (Qt) you're also contributing to the growth of your career. We need more contributors
-
@mtux congrats!
-
@rajitsingh As far as I know there are lots of people hiring Qt talent. Which stands to reason is a subset of C++ demand.
