do i need a virus scanner for my desktop pc which runs !linux? it only does home computing and nothin else and runs !ubuntu and !chakra
-
if yes, what's the best choice for me?i only care about the viruses that attach linux, not windows
-
@solidstatelogic usually not, only for windows partions basically. still if you paranoid you could try clamav and also check out rkhunter :D

You can also look into #tripwire, which will report on suspicious activity and system changes.

Your firewall should suffice.

Only install software from the Ubuntu software repositories, and you'll be quite safe.
-
And don't run commands without looking up and understanding what they do -- no system can protect you 100% from yourself.

Crossplatform stuff exists, of course: http://www.computerworld.in/news/web-based-malware-targets-windows-linux-and-mac-os-alike-17202012
