We should probably make that an option.

Thanks. identi.ca is a web "app", so clicking an external link shouldn't "close" it.
-
I don't think so.
-
@mfat You mean open links in new windows automatically, instead of using shift+click? :-/
-
Yes. That's the case for Gmail, Twitter, Google Plus, ...

When you open a link shared in a social network, you usually want to check it out and come back.

I don't want a babysitter. :) If I want, I use the ctrl or shift button + left click. Ok only as a configurable option.

That's a browser configuration option.

identica is not a "modern" web app because every action loads a new page.

Where it loads it--same tab, new tab, new window--is inconsequential in this designation. "Modern" web apps modify the page DOM.

@mfat We have too many "I know better" users here. They won't accept this, either as a usablity improvement or as a sec…

@lnxwalt: "i know better" really? we're all about choice, which kinda aligns w/ foss. Last time it was about security for you anyway, right?

@lnxwalt: security comment was off base because i didn't read after truncation at 140. Sorry :+

@hughbris No problem. Life would be boring if we all agreed on everything. I think on/off setting would be proper compromise here.

@mfat Short: "NO!" Long: this has been brought up many times and it it wrong! No website should open links in new windows or otherwise...
-
@mfat ...tamper with the users workflow. If a user wants a new window he can open it himself. Most ppl don't want new windows ever. ...
-
@mfat ... target=_blank is a relic from the times when browsers didn't have tabs and should die a violent death, cause of abuse that it does

@lnxwalt usability & security by opening links in a new window?!?! wtf?! 8-/
