@dothidden There's a useful setting under the “Old School” settings page: “Show nicknames in timelines”. It's on all the time for me :-)

@dothidden You do have a very good point there! I switched usernames on so I could follow all the @ mentions in conversations…

but a more intelligent way would be for status.net to translate @ mentions into real usernames if you preferred to see them instead.
