@thistleweb I may gripe about Firefox, but chrome is no option since I'm a #freesoftware gal

@laurelrusswurm there's always chromium, I use that for regular browsing, but design, blog posting etc is firefox

@laurelrusswurm how about giving !Seamonkey a try?

    • laurelrusswurm laurelrusswurm Trisquel GNU/Linux

@thistleweb I tried to find chromium in the !Trisquel repository once ... isn't it still Googlish?

@laurelrusswurm it might be listed as chromium-browser

@laurelrusswurm it's the base browser Google add their tweaks to, to turn it into Chrome, it's kinda Chrome - Google

    • laurelrusswurm laurelrusswurm tekk

@tekk I thought that was Firefox

@laurelrusswurm depending on how old the repo version is, if it's too old, some chrome addons won't work, but mostly its all compatible

@laurelrusswurm yes, a no frills browser that has a permanent place in any distro I run :)

@kevie hmmm... does Seamonkey get hysterical if you try to view a website you trust that has a self-signed security certificate?

    • laurelrusswurm laurelrusswurm

@thistleweb I'm doing my best to limit my googlism ... it already knows far too much about me, and you and everybody

@laurelrusswurm not at all in my experience

@kevie @laurelrusswurm I just started using iceape/seamonkey yesterday. I’m liking it. and no it doesn’t freak out at my self-signed certs.

    • laurelrusswurm laurelrusswurm

@thistleweb You know what, I do believe that *is* a bad thing. Frankly, I trust my friend's webpage far more than I will ever trust payPal's

    • laurelrusswurm laurelrusswurm

@thistleweb Saying one time that the web page is has a self-signed certificate would be a good thing, a series of them is intimidating . . .

    • laurelrusswurm laurelrusswurm

@thistleweb and I don't want to end up with an Internet entirely controlled by large corporate entities that can buy security certificates

@thistleweb As weird as it may sound: I am locked into Firefox. It has all my passwords and bookmarks in Firefox sync.

@kevie yikes... searching for "seamonkey browser" in the Ubuntu repository gets me "Adobe Flash Plug-In" ???

@sounds great, but doesn't appear in Ubuntu centre as iceape either... will try synaptic package manager
