Do I really need 15GB worth of in /var/chroot/maple on my daily-use T61, cashew? maple was my T41 that I've not used since 2011-07-01.

Before people starting answering me with advice on that,I should note that as I dented that last, I started running rm -rf /var/chroot/maple

And, before anyone asks the obvious, yes, of course all that data is backed up. Twice. Just a question of what I carry around with me.

OTOH, now that I think about it, fact that I must houseclean a 366GB partition seems bizarre to me. GPL violators, stop eating my disk space!

@bkuhn Since you've already decided to rm -fr I'll just say that those are interesting hostnames. Do you normally pick tree names?

@jxself, !Conservancy's computers are named after trees. Maple &cashew, which produce 2 items I like to eat, were my 1st 2 Conservancy laptops

@bkuhn so you like cashews soaked in maple syrup?

@bkuhn Ah, ok. If these laptops belong to Conservancy then the naming scheme actually makes sense. Note to self: Bring cashews to @bkuhn.

@bkuhn do you like the cashew so-called fruit, the nut (which happens to be the actual fruit), or both?

    • Bradley M. Kuhn Bradley M. Kuhn Alexandre Oliva

@lxoliva,I'm vaguely aware of this distinction, but I eat what is called the "cashew nut" here in USA, which look slike this: ur1.ca/a08mp

@bkuhn ok, that makes more sense; I guess fresh cashew “fruit” is hard to find in the US; how about bottled juice concentrate?

@jxself, I don't own my own laptop;I believe strongly in allowing "reasonable personal use" of work equipment, plus I'm almost always working

Speaking of "reasonable personal use of work" stuff, I should post my email to #Westinghouse HR re:their unenforceable computer usage policy

Thanks, @dyfet. I just realized I haven't seen you in 2 years or something like that. Are you coming to any conferences soon?

@bkuhn do you BIOS unlock your Conservancy laptops? What 802.11 chipset so you use?

@mcgrof,we buy old ath5k cards on ebay - 100% Free Software. :) OTOH, @keynote2k has a weird packet transmission problem w/ them on VoIP

@bkuhn not to mention that you have to use eBay (and PayPal)

      Cardbus or mini-pci ?

    • Bradley M. Kuhn Bradley M. Kuhn Paul Visscher , Luis R. Rodriguez

Mini-pci: inside the actual T60. @paulv diagnosed and saw the packets were right, but the VoIP is always choppy, but fine w/ wired ethernet

@bkuhn any chance you guys can upgrade to an AR9380 for usage with ath9k? http://minipci.biz/

@bkuhn choppy VoIP is really a PITA to diagnose, simply bc there are so many possible causes. Codec mismatch, NAT'ing issues, latency, etc/

    • Bradley M. Kuhn Bradley M. Kuhn x1101

@x1101, choppy VoIP is definitely wireless-card related in this case. I know other issues you mention, all have been eliminated.

    • Bradley M. Kuhn Bradley M. Kuhn Luis R. Rodriguez

@mcgrof, If the #AR9380 can fit inside a Lenovo T60-series laptop, then I can certainly upgrade. Seems not to be true from link you sent?

@bkuhn MTU or NAT setting for the card maybe?

    • Luis R. Rodriguez Luis R. Rodriguez

Do you have mini-PCI-express? Is it Half mini-pci-exrpess or Full mini-pci-express, Half is the small cards, Full is the long cards

    • Luis R. Rodriguez Luis R. Rodriguez

If you take a picture of the cards / slot on your motherboard I can tell, I might be able to get you some for #linuxcon
