.@forteller @csolisr @jankusanagi @chriswaterguy so, here's the plan's draft: http://rys.io/en/88 !identica !diaspora !statusnet discuss!
- Chris Watkins, boneidol, mmn and Chimo like this.
-
@rysiek xmpp/email/and ONE of sn/diaspora/friendica is trivial and already happening.
-
@encycl I know. but a). it should be e-mail, XMPP, sn AND Diaspora/Friendica (the user doesn't have to use it all, it just should be there)
Chris Watkins likes this. -
@encycl b). Step 1. is precondition; real work is in executing Step 2. this is what I want to get rolling, soon.
-
@rysiek the problem is the port issue right? since sn/d/f are all web services...so could you move the ports?
-
@rysiek Friendica > Diaspora. Mainly because Friendica can add contacts from Diaspora, StatusNet, and even Twitter/Facebook.
-
@encycl you mean, port as in 80/tcp and 443/tcp? yeah, it probably is an issue that needs adressing (pun intended); there are ways, though.
-
@csolisr I know. I would prefer to get some feedback on the general idea, and not get into bikeshedding... bit.ly/SsnEDk

@rysiek mumble can also be added. We have people doing that on parlementum already...4 services with the same user@domain
-
@encycl Mumble, got it! @csolisr will look close on that, thanks. problem: how to get web-based services working on a single domain.
Chris Watkins likes this. -
@csolisr XMPP can handle videochat but requires both users' clients to support it.
-
@rysiek @encycl One may add #SeeksSearch for web search, #MediaGoblin for media hosting, #Etherpad (or better) for collaborative documents
-
@rysiek @encycl Sorry, that one didn't work as intended. Just point your browsers to http://jpope.org/
-
@rysiek I found a nice app that can be added to the stack: http://ur1.ca/aes51
-
@rysiek Seems to me like you're describing oStatus and the Freedombox? http://is.gd/KpJjgb @csolisr @jankusanagi @chriswaterguy
-
@rysiek I'd say that the question is this: How do we get network creators to implement oStatus and… @csolisr @jankusanagi @chriswaterguy
-
@forteller Exactly! Basically, what @rysiek should make is a public #FreedomBox, without the box.
Chris Watkins likes this. -
@rysiek …How do we help the Freedombox reach their goal ASAP (spread the word, more devs, donations…) @csolisr @jankusanagi @chriswaterguy

@encycl reminds me... did you ever check on the parle mumble server?
-
@jim no, and I'm wiped out today. Can you text me in the morning tomorrow and I'll poke around.
-
@encycl ok. It's not a huge deal so no worries
-
The fastest way would be to knock them upside the head until they produce a virtual virtual image.
-
And by "virtual virtual" I just mean "virtual".
-
Great discussion. Basic questions: How much of this isn't in !Friendica already? Do we have feedback from Friendica Mike?
-
I am sceptical that TOR access is a priority. Having it is nice, but the TORnet is still so slow it'll likely make the whole stack look bad.
-
@pettter it would not be the *only* mode of access. but it should be there for those that wish to use it.
-
@csolisr great. I would love to get some more perspective and info on it.
-
@csolisr Etherpad I have in my extended wishlist (plus some spreadsheet solutions); MediaGoblin and SeeksSearch (or Yacy) - good ideas!
-
@csolisr true, but why not put Wordpress there. It would just make sense. Added to my wishlist. ;)
-
@forteller well, yes and no. Step 1 is kinde-sorta FreedomBox, but it *is* also aimed at communities being able to create their own solution
-
@rysiek No argument there :) Also, it's a good last resort to punch through NATs etc.
-
@forteller first, all major FLOSS NGOs should throw their weight behind a single ublogging and a single social media protocol.
-
@forteller FreedomBox is more ambitious than my Step 1. I think promoting creation of services that people can subscribe to/et (like the
-
@forteller ...@telecomix cluster) is a faster way for now. when we get them out of the walled-gardens, moving them to private FreedomBoxes
-
@forteller would be helluva lot easier. one step at a time! ;)
-
@forteller once upon a time there was http://status.net/wiki/SpreadStatusNet/Support maybe we could restart it? also: #advocacy
-
@rysiek step 1=many steps, years. Shorter: promote SN as spam^wdissemination method http://indiewebcamp.com/POSSE style, more OStatus impl
-
@mlinksva I was able to create a POC installation a'la Step 1 in just a few months in my previous job. dissmeination - yes, v.important.
-
Wow! I love this. The #prisonbreak idea is awesome. I'll help if I can somehow! And thanks for reminding me about setti…

There are some good user insights and thoughts on decentralized networks on the Hacker News discussion related to the release of Tent v0.1.
-
That would be here: http://ur1.ca/aez6r
-
@ulvulv thanks. one question (rhethorical one, probably): *why* another protocol? srsly, why not OStatus... -_-'

@rysiek I wanted to say 'talk about hipocrysy', but I noticed info about it on their website (bottom) http://tent.io/
-
@cyberkiller I will believe it when I see it...
-
@forteller @csolisr @jankusanagi @mmm @mlinksva @chriswaterguy @encycl #PrisonBreak updated with Step 0. http://rys.io/en/88
-
@ulvulv Oh gosh, all the wanking about how HTTP is the only thing because TCP/80 is the only thing that can/should be open *facepalm*
zash likes this. -
@rysiek Don't know. The web page only said they had considered the other alternatives, not what they felt was lacking.
-
@ulvulv Lack of private messages IIRC
-
They talk about it here: https://github.com/tent/tent.io/issues/4 There are also a few other issues with interesting discussion.
-
@rysiek @forteller @jankusanagi @chriswaterguy @encycl @jpope Time for some collaborative text edition! http://ur1.ca/af31n
-
@march Yeah. I mostly built that list single handedly. It's of vital importance to have 3rd party support, and I'm a bit bummed out that…
-
@march …the list wasn't pushed/supported much more by StatusNet themselves. Should've had a big campaign to get apps to support SN/oStatus!
-
@forteller oh, sorry, didn't want to tease you, didn't check history, just remembered that list. so thank /you/ for it and let's restart it!
-
@march Nah, no problem, man! I'm just happy someone remembers it! :D Yeah, I agree we should restart it! But needs official support from SN!
