WARNING! @morevnaproject will NOT be !FaiF: http://ur1.ca/avp3k
-
@csolisr gar, that is too bad, and all for 2 music tracks? could surely be replaced.
-
@mlinksva Everything indicates that they will not. The exact same thing happened with Elephants Dream, Big Buck Bunny, and Sintel.
-
@csolisr I don't understand "exact same thing". ED, BBB, S all CC-BY for everything, no?
-
@mlinksva CC-BY for images, a non-transferable permission to CC-BY-NC-ND for music. Ask @wavecaster.
-
@csolisr I see, don't know how I missed eg http://www.blendernation.com/2010/10/21/sintel-score-now-available-music-video/ :/
-
@mlinskva Every attempt to do a fully libre audiovisual work has ALWAYS met some undermining of its freedom. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.
-
To be clear though, the "entire audio track" of Blender films is CC BY, however the separate soundtrack is nonfree.
-
So if you are getting bit that comes w/ the film with the sound effects overlaid, that's CC BY. The "music only" is nonfree.
-
That said I find it way totally disappointing, and wish it weren't the case. The music is also done with nonfree software. :\
-
@cwebber The fix is, of course, composing a !FaiF alternate score for all the aforementioned videos.
Mike Linksvayer and Christopher Allan Webber like this. -
It can't be *that* hard to find musicians who believe in Freedom. Surely we could put together a better score.
-
@csolisr @cwebber I do know of a !Faif -friendly music composer, who only uses Libre licenses and GNU !LilyPond: yours truly :-)

@vvillenave I also CC'd @lorenzosmusic and @dbautistadecabo on Twitter. They too use libre licenses and software.
-
@csolisr My handicap is that I’m good at *writing* scores, not *recording* them. And most people look for sound files, not music scores.
-
@csolisr @cwebber Anyway, there’s a preview of my work on http://identi.ca/url/74152838 and http://identi.ca/url/47728532 (in French)

Ton has also said that they're not an audio shop, but are a visuals shop; maybe a good solution is to fund an equiv "open music" project
-
using fully free tools, all source files distributed, and helping to fund and coordinate software dev with something like Ardour?
-
I'd donate to such a project if it came about.
-
@cwebber The problem is, there are many tools but neither works for everyone. Ardour, Audacity, LMMS, QTractor, Rosegarden...
-
So pick one and fly with it as the primary one! The Blender open movies put Blender at the center but use other tools also, so...
